So, I have a laptop running Linux, and I often connect it to my TV (1920x1080@60) over VGA (as my laptop doesn't have HDMI output) to watch movies, etc. My old VGA cable can reliably reach 1920x1080@60 just fine, and although there are no standards specifying VGA connector's resolution maximum, 2048x1536@85 is the common, generally accepted maximum among all cables. However, I bought two cables on Saturday, one 2m and one 5m. Yet, they can only reach 1360x768@60 on my TV. Why is this? Here's some relevant Xorg.0.log output:

[ 18.896] (II) intel(0): Not using default mode "1920x1080" (hsync out of range)
