I was chatting with some mates in ventrillo about a month ago and one of them told me that I can reinstall windows for free by downloading some program.

I cannot remember what it was, but it basically finds your product key and lets you "reuse" it, once you have uninstalled your old windows copy.

You then just download windows 7 64 bit from some site and you install it with your (now reusable) product key.

I know it sounds real fucking far-fetched, but when he showed me it a few months ago it all looked legit.

Is this true?

The reason I want to do this is because when I got my laptop it came with windows 7 professional 32 Bit. It has 4GB of RAM and it pisses me off that I cannot use that extra gig of RAM that is just sitting there.

Alternatively, can I go to the shop where I got my laptop and demand they give me the CD? My laptop is about 8 months old.
