Semi computer newfag here with a question.

When you overclock you CPU, you make it run faster, which in turn makes it do things faster and all that.

But does it really matter when you play games? I mean the GPU does the work on rendering all the graphics and all that so why bother overclocking your CPU for that? Correct me if I am wrong but it seems pretty pointless to me.

Correct, it only makes a difference if you CPU is older.

That depends on how the game is designed. Some games are more CPU heavy than others.

Yes. A game like ARMA II, for example, will run much better on an i7 than a C2D, even with the same graphics card.
