Ubuntu 11.10 will be what Natty was supposed to be. New features and a better Unity.

Unity is a shell for gnome, not a DE itself. The actual unity version is a shell for gnome 2, the next one is going to be for gnome 3. I don't think you know how unity works.

Unity is a Gnome shell, so it would run on top of Gnome.

Currently it runs on top of Gnome 2.

Later it will run on top of Gnome 3.

Unity is not a part of Gnome, although it could be if the Gnome people wanted it to be, I guess.

How is this difficult to understand?
