Alot of new games like quad cores FYI, Also L3 cache does help slightly. Why not cough up 40-50$ more and get a 955?

as i said, the 555 is a good investment. it'll never struggle at that res AND it has that unlock potential if you're upgrading.

the 212 isn't a quiet hsf by the way....it's a good cooler but hardly ideal if he's using it as a htpc as well.

good. I would then go for the phenom. there is like 90% chance you will unlock it to at least X3. and ~60% for all four cores

You must learn to use speedfan.
I have it set on 5% (770 rpm) and it never ever goes above 45°C no matter what I play

if it says it has acc, yes. iirc if it's after the 770 chipset and the southbridge is after 710.

That's what I thought when I built my last rig. I ended up using a Phenom II X3 Heka 720. Ended up stuck with a motherboard that couldn't unlock the fourth core... So, I mean It works fine, but in hindisght I regret not popping for the 955.
