hresvelgr !!QFlPMusy5jX
>>17791175 Adobe's products use something created by nVidia called CUDA, which allows for processing using graphics cards, which tends to be much faster than a cpu. ATi/AMD has something along these lines too, I'm not sure what it's called offhand.
But the point is, Adobe has implemented CUDA for their programs such as photoshop and after effects which can dramatically decrease the time for operations to be done in their programs. Using an AMD graphics card will not offer the same benefit.
I personally recommend the gtx460 in a SLI configuration due to the excellent scaling, price to performance ratio, and the fact that it's cheap as hell. Not to mention that the drivers tend to be more solid than AMD's.
The performance benefit of a 6970, or two, for that matter, is not significant enough to warrant spending almost twice the amount that the gtx460 SLI configuration costs.
In the end it's really up to you, but I don't think it's the best choice especially if you aren't going to be hardcore gaming all the time. (Which actually isn't a problem, gtx460(s) in SLI can run Crysis at max settings.)

His choice of monitor is better because it uses an IPS panel (In-Plane Switching) instead of TN (Twisted nematic). IPS improves on the poor viewing angle and the poor color reproduction of TN panels. It's name comes from the main difference from TN panels, that the crystal molecules move parallel to the panel plane instead of perpendicular to it. This change reduces the amount of light scattering in the matrix, which gives IPS its characteristic wide viewing angles and good color reproduction.

You should touch the metal parts of the case (ground yourself) before you touch any part, work on a non-fabric area (no carpets or rugs), and refrain from wearing extraneous clothing while building. (Such as socks or a button-up shirt)

OP, since you have time, go make a thread on anandtech forums for build advice/critique when you're done here. I also recommend a SSD. The hard drive is the slowest component on your system, and boosting here will make noticeable improvements. Couple a reasonable size SSD, 60-80gb, with a 2tb storage drive, which can be the green one even. Consider that buying high end CPU is a case of very diminishing returns. For a small uptick in performance, you pay a significant chunk of the cost. For that reason I also suggest the i5 quad core. Alternative suggestion: buy a cheap lliano laptop when they come out next month, and one year from now buy a reasonably priced Ivy Bridge + 28nm GPU + 250gb SSD desktop. Then you still have the laptop in addition to your desktop, and you'll have a better desktop most likely.
