Hey /g/
In a few weeks or so, I will have enough money to build my first rig.
Now this isn't a BUILD ME A RIG thread.
This is a tell me what brands are good and what brands are bad.So I have something to add to knowledge when doing more research.
Or just give me a personal love/hate story about a certain brand.

Keyboad and mouse I usually let the customer pick out. I love Logitech mice, the G400 is awesome. I also suggest, if you have the money, to buy mechanical. I have been using a Adesso cherry blue for a while now.

The emphasis of my post is on XFX by the way. Their stuff looks horribly ugly, but when you don't have a side window you couldn't care less, and their PSUs are basically nothing less than Seasonic parts in a new shell at half the price, and Seasonic is pretty much the most premium PSU brand you can find.

Imagine if Corsair was a Mercedes-Benz. Seasonic would be a Maybach. Even more luxurious, and A LOT more expensive. Corsair is simply the more purse sensitive choice, but even then it's on the pricey side.

They're pretty much all fine at this point. I still wouldn't buy Foxconn or Biostar. Asus, Gigabyte, MSi, and AsRock are all usually good. EVGA is good, but expensive for nothing really to special.

Logitech, Steelseries, certain Razer (mostly the DA), various other mice are all generally good.

Dell, Asus, Samsung, and HP all make pretty good monitors, depending on what lines you look at. Mostly the IPS ones.
>Cooling
Good aftermarket heatsinks include the CM 212+/Evo, Scythe Mugen 2 (if you can still find it for cheap), Noctua NH-D14, Thermalright Silver Arrow, and the Phanteks equivalent of those last 2. There are other good ones, but those are the most popular.

Corsair products are generally good but, like any product, they have their flaws. They are also often a tad expensive. They are not infallible. I'm not sure why people circlejerk over them so hard.
But they are generally good.

Bad, pretty much all cases under 100 are really cheap and bad.
PSU
Good: Corsair
Bad: Kingwin
Mobo
Good: Asus
Bad: ASSrock

Bad: AMD unless you're really just on a thunderbudget and need somthing semi-strong and dont expect it to last more than a few years
RAM
Almost all memory is manufactured by the same companies (Hynix, Samsung, ect.)
I'm prersonaly fond of Corsair.
Keyboard
Completely preference based.
My favorite keyboard was a BTC, and they tend to make "meh" at best. Discontuned my favorite.
Mouse
Completely preference based. I typicaly cant use and dont like 1337 G4M1NG mice because I browse/general use left handed and Game right handed. I've outplayed many many players on better machines with 49298209 button mice on my 3 button/scroll.Get somthing comforitable.
Monitor
Good: Asus, Dell, LG
Bad: HP, Toshiba, Acer
Cooling etc
CPU Cooling (non liquid): Corsair
GPU Cooling (non liquid); Artic Cooling

Just my opinions after many years, different user experiences cause different lists of corse.

You are right. I had some stability errors and it took forever to find out that it was since my ram was cl7 and wasn't able to change the setting higher then a 6. When I contacted msi they said they never heard of crucial ram. I ended up just getting some new cl4 memory.

Don't buy Corsair USB sticks for example, it baffles me that they are able to make usb sticks that last from a couple of days to a month or two max.

El cheapo usb sticks are more reliable than corsair sticks

Indeed. Bought a Flash Voyager GT from them and I've had to RMA it twice. I cannot for the life of me figure out how they mad a USB drive that shitty. Transfer speeds are pretty decent, though.

Cheap LG monitors generally use alot of glossy plastic (which I, and probably alot of other /g/entlemen, are not fond of)

Samsung makes good monitors, but they also tend to use glossy plastic

For example, I used to play WoW, and I had 24 spells macro'd to the top 12 keys (the first 12, and then shift + those). That's 24 spells/abilities without even moving my hand. I've tended to buy the more expensive LGs, truthfully, they've been great. My 23" LED is by far my favorite, next to my Asus.

How long have Asrock been making good board? I've come across MANY of them in the past and they've all had major issues.
I just bought one last year for my server and every time I turn the computer off, I have to pull the main power plug out of the motherboard and re-plug it back in to turn the computer back on. And the RAID doesn't work AT ALL.

And even that's just they one I BOUGHT. I couldnt even imagine how many I saw working at the PC recycling plant that were the reason people got rid of entire computers. And friends who build budget PCs.

I've seen WAY to many dead ones to even want to think about the idea of them making "good" boards.

I've seen less Intel boards die than Ass rock

Good: Seasonic, Corsair, 80+ in general...
Bad: The kind put in Prebuilt computers, Ones that come with your cases. Diablotek, Logisys is pretty sketchy.
Mobo:
Good: Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte
Bad: I fucking hate foxconn, I would pay an extra 50 dollars to get an ASRock/ASUS/Gigabyte Equivilant. It is fairly well spread that they participate in child slave labor, something I don't want my money going towards.
CPU:
Good: Intel, AMD ;)
Bad: AMD, Intel ;)
RAM:
Good: Gskill, Kingston, etc.
Bad: AII Electronics, TeamElite
Keyboard:
Good: Logisys
Bad: Rosewill makes cheap plastic ones, Same with most companies like HP, dell etc. just get shitty ones and put their logo on it.
Mouse: See Keyboards
Monitor:
Good: Asus, etc.
Bad: Not much experience here, the cheap ones are kind of shitty.
Cooling:
Good: Corsair, Antec is good, Coolermaster is great.
Bad: Cheap Watercooling/Fans, Rosewill works, but it isn't my first choice.

I've had 2 samsung monitors either DOA or die after a month. Never had this with any other brand. The best part was when Samsung didn't know what to do, offered me a replacement, then changed their mind and offered me a refund which never came, then accused me of LYING about their offer, then demanded a credit card number just to ship me an equivalent model.

FUCK samsung, I can deal with defective products but their behavior is borderline criminal.
