An important thing with martial arts and fighting is that its very much like selling stuff. You need to be confident in what you do, and adjust your style to the person you're confronted with. It's not something you can repeat the same routine again and again, day in, day out, and still expect to take on anyone. You need to constantly mix it up, feel the fluidity in your style. It's important to know your style and your strikes so well that instead of shutting your brain off when you strike, and hoping to hit true, you're spatially aware of everything that's going on. How fast your strike is moving, whether they're in a position to block or evade it, whether you're in good position for the strike, how balanced your strike and footwork is, how balanced their defence and footwork is, whether they're throwing a return punch or not.
All these things you need to be both consciously and unconsciously aware of, and this is just during a single strike. This doesn't account for multiple opponents, crowded areas, tight areas, uncertain terrain, etc.
Train, retrain, test your skills against a new opponent (in a non-threatening, purely mutual encounter), then train and retrain your weaknesses.
Fine tune your body until every sinew is ready. That way you can go into a fight prepared, and come out alive.
