Picture shows an example of a Dirty Pair doujin originally printed in B/W. Way back then, the artistic styles were no-where as refined as they are today. Of course, a lot of that had commercial comics to blame as many of them had large expanses of white space. That "large white space style" seemed to influence a lot of doujins to be drawn the same way. Fans would try to make colour doujins by colourizing them as you see in the picture....
>>3076833>BACK IN MY DAY WE HAD TO WORK OUR ASSES OFF TO GET ANYTHING RESEMBLING DECENT FAP MATERIAL.>I remember the hours of scouring, the constant redirection and wrong turns. Heh. I was frustrated with a noisy line so the 28K modem was about my top speed for a long while until the 56K modem was perfected with a better noise-resistant compression. That and AOL had a innovative "keep on downloading" approach while you were busy reading and not clicking. That helped speed things up.
People are so spoiled now. Before all these DDL (direct download) services like Rapidshare, Megaupload, etcetera, people had to run around finding sites with bandwidth in order to upload or download. A number of well-off users, took it upon themselves to try to support fandom by providing online sites with files for download. They would accept donations to help offset the bandwidth costs. One big name site was "Mr PC" which would have a number of the latest fansubs. There were other sites that did anime such as Ripper's Anime.
Now, you have fast "read it online" sites for hentai doujins/manga such as DoujinLand at
doujinland.com/category/series/ which has both downloads and galleries you can simply click and read instead of downloading. It's nice to have a choice.
