Kindly keep in mind that there are several factors for this rage worthy topic. First off, I think the amount of submissions may not be accurate- some artists may delete old submissions that have been viewed as too crappy. It's also offset in that aminako has been on da for slightly less than 2 years- dream for about 4 and a half years.
And then there's the ever popular content- dream is drawing up unknown stuff, while ami's got all the pokeymans and animu and things people flock to, always a hefty bonus.
More importantly, the biggest factor here is that you don't get much for pageviews just by submitting something- especially with version 6 DA, no one looks at new submissions. For the small % of people that actually look at new submissions instead of popular, new submissions get bumped off the front page in the matter of 20 seconds, unlike v5 which put 5 new submissions up for a full minute for all to see, but that's another story with too much detail.
No, you have to get attention in ways other than just plopping some animu or furry in your gallery. The general way is to comment, fave, etc etc. Dream's done something like 40 total, ami's got damn near 17000 comments. Dream has 5 pages of favorites, ami's got 114 pages worth of pics faved. Doesn't matter dream may have better quality, ami's got far more to get initial attention on her. This is why DA is more of a social networking that revolves around (ie under the pretense of) art.
And THIS, I believe, is why DA can't be taken seriously.
