Hello /ic/. I am aware that Loomis is god tier for studying figure drawing, but are there any other artists or books that you recommend I read if I am interested in learning how?

Pic related: This image of the model Blaze inspired me to pursue figure drawing. I wish I could just have her sit in my room so I could draw her all day. I am smitten.

She's okay. When you start a lot of women you start looking at them better.

On topic - Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is best to start with. Loomis is god-tier though, so you'll eventually have to go with him. Also, don't rely on books too much. Draw from life at least 5x as much as you read from books.

I prefer Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life, but sometimes he's not as clear as he could be with his wording. I would recommend it if you know the muscles already and know where they attach attach, but don't know exactly how they affect the figure. You could also nab Vilppu's drawing tutorial videos. He goes indepth as well, and you see him working, so that helps.

I recommend Stephen Rogers Peck in combination with Bridgeman and a good portion of life drawing.
Peck is almost medical in his approach, which is nicely balanced out with Bridgeman's approach. However both won't do you much good without life drawing.

Start with doing some gesture drawings. The first thing you want to do is to become more comfortable with drawing the figure.

As for the Loomis recommendations, I think that book is god awful and I don't even know why /ic/ even bothers to recommend it most of the time. Next time I'm in class I'll ask my instructor about the books she's been getting us copies from. It's like god tier.

Either way, just become more comfortable drawing first, like by drawing from life. It will help you to actually see what you are drawing.
