As for the turntables - personally, I'd rather try to model it myself. Except 3D is scary and I'm not sure where to start. At least with drawing you know that you can start by observing and drawing whatever is in front of you, just stuff on your desk, and that will take you a long while. As far as I know there's nothing similar in 3D, because before you can start practising you need to learn how to hold your metaphorical pencil. E.g. learn the software, get familiar with the techniques. Even the /3/ sticky is intimidating, it's got like three million links and all of them are full with words like 'nurbs', 'voxel' and 'parallax mapping'. It's like you need to know 3D before you can learn 3D.
