Yesterday I went out and bought a laptop for the main purpose of doing my art stuff on it. I was just wondering, what type of programs do ya'll use for editing and that kinda stuff.

Photoshop for editing, SAI does well for simple linearts if drawing is your style. Personally I draw in Open Canvas, the strokes feel more real. :P

Depends what you want to make.

For me, and a lot of people, the basics are Photoshop and Illustrator.

Painter is cool for fake painting, if that's what you want to do.

gimp is legally free and works on linux which is its main attraction. Its a attempt at a photoshop clone. It can do 95% of what photoshop can do for most daily tasks, but can be clumsy, especially if you need to do advanced channel work. So use it if you have to, and get photoshop when you can, going between one and the other isnt too painful.

Some decent freeware programs are OpenCanvas 1.1 and Nekopaint for doing linework. Both of them are a bitch to find in English, but they're totally worth it.
