Depends what kind of painter you want to be. Generally its old fashioned, cant hurt to do one every couple to 6 months or so, and can be useful if you want to learn/practice something specific, or learn to copy a specific style for some purpose.
But in general, it has gone out of favor for a reason. But you will still find pretentious painter people who say its the only way to learn. Dont their advice with a grain of salt.
It can be fun though. And cant hurt. If you are trying to copy a certain artists work, its a lot easier if you get the correct pigments from the time period (at least some).
