To OP:
I can vouch for everyone talking about annealing, soft metal, etc. Assuming the metal has not oxidized away and warped seriously, I see no reason why it would not action and dry fire. Shooting is different, the components impacting will quickly leave permanent damage in the softened metal. Places like where the firing pin impacts especially will mess things up fast, so only dry fire it once. If you can, get low powered rounds that still produce enough pressure. I would be surprised if the impact intensive areas make it through a mag....
If the barrel is warped it doesn't matter as long as the inner dimensions are big enough. they should be too big, actually, because of oxidation. zee germans actually experimented with mp40s with barrels angled at 30 or 45 deg...
If the rifle fucks up, I would still take the stock, reciever, barrel, and other shit that can be softened and combine it with new AK guts to make a seriously badass/scary range toy or wall mount
