>>13072266A weapon that is said to have been "Sporterized" means that it was modified for hunting or other sport shooting. This usually entails such things as re-chambering the weapon for a common (or preferred) hunting caliber, putting a new stock on it or modifying the existing stock, drilling and tapping for a scope mount, etc.
This is different from the process of "bubba-ing" a weapon, which entails taking the weapon and mangling it in horrible, horrible ways.
A SMLE that someone re-chambers for .308 and mounts a scope on is sporterized. A Type-99 that's had the last six inches of its barrel chopped off, the mum removed, been re-chambered, drilled, tapped and slapped into a synthetic Mossy Oak-pattern Monte Carlo stock with cheap optic on top has been bubba'd.
How angry /k/ gets over this varies immensely. If it's a common 91/30 that's been mangled or destroyed then the reaction is generally something along the lines of "oh god, why would you do that", but if it's a rare gun that gets bubba'd or sporterized (like with the Type-99 mentioned above) then nuclear fucking rage is the norm.
