Turns out the bang was two trees that grew too close together smacking into each other.

I dunno what possessed that turkey to fall out of the tree instead of flying away, but I will take the sight of it to my grave.

I've had an owl fly into the back of my head. I also keep running into this skunk that lives near the building my office is in. Little guy was following me one night. He's never been particularly offensive, and I see him about twice a week these days.

Might as well share my /kx/ night. This is going to be maybe two or three posts. First I'll tell my part then the backstory..

My dad lives on a grape farm up north. My grandma lives on the same property, as does my uncle, but all in separate houses. I've marked everything.
So

>no wind, no clouds, full moon
>decide to go coyote hunting with my new Wasr.
>throw on gear, tactical ear saving beanie, etc
>grab cousin, little brother and his friend
>brother grabs my single shot 20ga, my cousin has the maglight
>head up path to grapepatch (Green line)
>walk past 84 rows of spooky grapes on one side and creepy woods on other
>lots of creepy stories and things happen up here, so we're playfully spooked
>woods on left ends, opening up into an open field (usually corn)
>keep walking til we pass grapes, stray into the field
>hear noise on other side of field (general area marked with x)
>stop, point guns, shine light, strain eyes to see anything
>its eerie quiet out, no wind, no animals, like the whole world is frozen, not just the ground

My dad, uncle and grandma all live on the same property. They always tell stories of strange things they've seen in the sky. For example, one night in the 80s my uncle was on his porch watching a plane fly in his direction.
He noticed it was really low, and was headed straight for his house. He called my aunt out and they watched it silently fly at them, until it stopped and shot straight up, and vanished. He told me this when I was about 10 so it may or may not be true; i've only heard it once during a fire we had.

My dad has a story from when he is a kid. I've heard this on a few occasions and he always says it in a very serious tone. I will greentext it from his POV for your reading pleasure

My grandma mentioned once there was some sort of creature that was sighted several times in the area in the early 1900s. The path up to the grapepatch used to be a stagecoach road.

Theres been other stories too, but they are too fuzzy to tell. I don't like going innawoods up there at night alone.

also pic related, its from a few days before this event happened, we are actually in the general area where we heard the first noise.

I don't really know how to explain it man, but I'm not exaggerating that to add creepyness. I could tell that the sound wasn't coming from ground level, the sound came from around 6 feet on the other side of the tree. I don't think it's too outrageous to be able to tell where the source of a sound is with your ears.

From my experience in having to mercy kill animals, it's much easier to just snap its neck than to use a knife. Breaking its neck will kill it just about instantly, while using the knife to cut a vein, behead it, or what have you will take longer and be more painful.

I was camping out in a tree stand for hunting deer in a forest outside of Frankfurt Germany. I heard this sound like a monster, I did not look because I did not want it to see me. Thinking back on it rationally the only thing i can think it may have been is a dog like the one in the picture, one of the tall breeds and wet as a shag, although it was quite a distance from any homes or farms

Turns out it was a mountain lion and her two cubs. She had pried on the board until it snapped off, then sent her two cubs into the lamb pen to teach them how to hunt/kill. They were bad at it, which must have made for a horrible death for those lambs, but explains why there was blood splattered all over the place. The ewe got attacked as well and had her throat torn open which suggests it was the mother lion that did that as the cubs would have torn the ewe up much worse.

I was the one that fed them all, so I guess the ewe could smell me outside my window which is where she was trying to bleat through a torn open throat after she escaped.

Anyway, you're allowed to kill lions if they are a threat to your family/livelihood. So an old family friend came over with hounds and tracked/killed the three lions.
I was very sad about the whole thing. I remember all the grown men standing around shaking hands and taking pictures with the three dead lions and being kinda pissed because I didn't think they deserved to die. Still, gave me nightmares for like 2 years, I can't even describe that gurgling moan except to say that it sounded like listening to your soul drowning

Sounds pretty awesome. My public school here in OZ still offered Aikido and army cadets when I was a kid, complete with a cadet store full of SLRs & Lee Enfields. But it was much more regimented than what you describe, mainly aimed at producing good citizens for the state, not capable free indivduals.
It was rather strange, they had an original copy of the Magna Carta in a glass case along with some old coins. I don't think anyone there, teachers or students understood what it represented or the fact that that parchment was worth more than the entire school.

I sometimes wonder it it is still there.

I was doing some volunteer work on some trails near my dorm back in my freshman year. We were just clearing off the trails from deadwood etc. As we go along we find a dead fox pup. Sad an' all but we continue. Keep on going and we find 2 more dead pups. Go and bury them, and as I'm walking back up to the car we see the mom fox just chillin all traumatized. We walk up within like 5 feet of it, and it just wont move, looks like it is having 'nam flashbacks. Ended up just leaving it there.

my bike wasn't rideable after that, the front tire was bent so much it wouldn't spin anymore, I think it got wedged in the trianglular frame of my bike for a bit because there was fur and blood on the gears and my water bottle holder and bike lock holder were mangled, some of the cables got ripped off the frame too.
I'm guessing due to the wind being quite strong and my bike being very quiet when I'm peddling, it didn't hear me coming, and with the flood lights behind me it didn't see me either. What probably saved my ass was that I hit it first, and thus got the upper hand, then it got tangled with my bike so it felt like it was outnumbered and being attacked.

late at night at night sometimes, I hear something brushing up against the outside facing wall of my room near the window when the lights on, but it avoids the window when the inside lights are on and the patch of light it casts on the ground. When the lights are off, sometimes I hear brushing and scratching sounds on the window and a weird clicking sound.

also, my housemate has this dog that does not bark when it hears the noise outside, in fact the dog goes absolutely silent at night. It's not a small shitty dog either, it's some kind of Rottweiler mix that's at least 70lbs. It refuses to sleep in the living room and only sleeps in the basement under a table. It did bark once though, when the guy first got here, he tried to keep the dog in a dog house outside, but it wouldn't stop barking when left alone outside when it approached dark, the guy went to see whats wrong with the dog, opened the door up a little and it bolted inside and hid behind a couch the whole night.
Sometimes out on walks, it would become very distressed and tug on the leash towards the house. Once inside, it would go into the basement and under the table
