UCP actually works decent in urban areas. It blends in great with concrete, not a horrible idea for a SWAT team imo.

You know. If there were just like 4 guys on both sides of a street that had good ambushing positions, they could easily take out all the SWAT and stuff. Just have guys dump ammo at them and for the larger stuff just have a couple guys cover while one of them throws a home-made charge at vehicles or whatever. That'd work, right?

How would that be bad? So long as freedoms from unwarranted searches and seizures, to a fair and speedy trial, from self incrimination, and other such things are respected, why would it matter what patch they have on their uniforms?

From a practical standpoint, having military personnel conduct police work is inefficient because of the different skillsets and training, but I see no inherent grand and horrifying violation of human rights in using military to conduct police work.

The problem is that people do what they are trained to do and most people tend to be lazy. The training that keeps a soldier alive makes him a walking human rights violation if you put him in a role likely to trigger that training back home.

That doesn't mean no one who served can be a cop, but they need transition and retraining so that they cease to be a soldier and instead become a cop. An active soldier cannot be a cop. It isn't fair to ask them to do something that is contrary to their training. Thats why peacekeeping and nation building sucks so badly for our soldiers: it isn't their job. I'm a hell of a psychologist and most of my patients are teenagers, but if you asked me to teach a high school class I'd be a shitty teacher and probably drink myself to death.

It matters because soldiers are trained to kill threats. If you trained them to do something else they wouldn't be soldiers. Having a soldier in the role of cop increases the likelihood of someone being killed, someone who has not been convicted of any crime.
