>>13395669It is the same concept that crippled the Renk strike force that landed on Vosk, for when outnumbered thirty to one by the Renk forces, having adequate resources, craft, and permission from the Renk commander to escape, to leave the planet, a raid was launched. Using the space crafts that would otherwise be used for the retreat, the combined civilian and remaining military forces on Vosk directed their ships on a collision course towards the largest of the Renk landing crafts. Expecting attacks against their military forces and not the ships that had brought them there, the Renk left these craft undefended and thus where left stranded on the planet when they where obliterated, unable to launched further into the system with their ships destroyed.
So fierce, enduring, and unrelenting is this concept that even we have come to fear it. Otherwise, our ancestors would not have discovered the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction and would have plunged the nations of earth into nuclear war and annihilated each other in the twentieth century. It is this concept that almost made man his own killer.
This concept drives us not to ensure our own victory, but to ensure the denial of our enemies victory, even if the cost is our very lives.
It is the concept you learned when you where young. When you first where wronged by another, and wanted to do wrong to them, not to retrieve what had been stolen, or fix what had been broken, but to make them feel pain, to return the favor.
It is a concept that no other species can match, and in many cases, even understand.
It is the concept of revenge.
