Also in my state the blade has to be less than 5 inches, I'm guessing Texas is similar

There's crap you can get away with legally but not really. Like technically you can carry around a sword in public. However wearing it about town would probably get you a disturbing the peace charge or worse.

Honestly you're less likely to get hassled wearing a big skinning knife and camo during deer season than a small legal knife in preppy clothes during other times of the year.
