>>8773381Yeah, I'm in a long term bunker planning process (basically, if I ever get the money set aside to do it in the future) so I'm researching into different areas.
I'm working on compiling lists of drugs and medicines you might want to store up that won't be harmful if old, just less potent. Also categorizing different foods based on how long they can be stored (like I said, rice and others can last indefinitely if kept cold, MREs last years, etc). Not to mention stuff can be canned/jarred, and even if it doesn't last years or indefinitely, it can still be used in the short term or as a short term backup.
The power outage thing is the main reason I'd want to be fully off the grid. If the power grid fails, then that's it, no more power. I'm trying to figure out a reasonable power source that is renewable and wave is probably the best thing I can think of if you build near a river, or solar panels depending on how well you can conceal them because you don't want any signs that something is there (plus, not sure about this, but to solar panel cells wear out in a fairly short amount of time?)
Small LED lights or handcrank flashlights can be used to save power if you just need to get around in the dark (I'm also considering a little guide-path walkway of tritium inserts, not sure how long they will last though). Obviously though, a light system that can be on for a reasonable amount of time is preferable though, but the ultimate goal for power should be sustaining a fridge for items you may want to keep long term.
