there are alot of crazy people that think the world could end in 2012. I am planning on buying 3-4 guns, not incase of war or anything like that, but incase of the crazy ass people that think the world is going to end that are most likely going to do some retarded ass shit.

For the pistol i'm going to want something with a threaded barrel so i can get a silencer, for the rest i am unsure what to buy.

TL;DR Crazy people in 2012? What defend with?

you dont need a silencer. in fact if you're defending your home you want to advertise the fact that you're armed and ready to fight. Get an AK and spend the rest on indestructible metal magazines and a shit ton of ammo.

OP get whatever gun you want. Just remember there are thousands of people any you will only have 50 cartridges in your box of ammo.
go the cheap route with the ball ammo. cost is less so you can buy more. Keep a stock pile some place. cuz once you are out of ammo your gun is a good club.

2012 crazies aren't going to do anything. This is hardly the first time people have been convinced the world is going to end, and when it doesn't it never causes SHTF. If history is any guide, there will be momentary cognitive dissonance, followed by "recalculation," then everyone will decide the world is actually going to end in 2017 or something.

Why are people so hung up on .45 ammo? its a good medium that is accurate, has a moderate recoil (not to high or low) and has plenty of stopping power. Why you so mad about .45? Pussy 9mm is just that pussy. People have lived after being shot 4-5 times with that shit. Yet .45 is almost guaranteed to stop you with 1-2 shots maybe 3 at the very most. So why is it bad to opt. .45? Or are you just a butt hurt 9mm fan?
Also some things to consider.
Most people you shoot in almost any situation are not going to be wearing BPV's unless they are Patrol cops or sheriffs (low grade armor) Swat (mid grade) or the army (mid-high grade). If its swat or army your up against you better have a rifle because your pistol is not going to cut it, if its a cop, then his armor will prob. stop 9mm and up because 9mm is one of the most common round's. .45 even without pen. will have a lot of blunt force trauma and which at the very least will stun the guy for a few seconds while you make a second shot. .45 dumps more energy and is a bigger round period. Buy whatever gun you want OP but .45 is highly recommended.

Alright OP, as far as bang for your buck goes, I recommend an Arsenal AK. They are high-quality, more accurate than most novice shooters when shooting from sandbags, more accurate than most anyone when shooting back in a panic, and they won't break your bank at $800 or so. Most importantly, they share parts commonality with other AKs, so you can make repairs and use spare parts, and they use common ammo. Get one, hell, get two or three if you can.

Avoid battery-dependent optics. Eotech and Aimpoint, despite long battery life, are no-nos. Scopes with illuminated reticles are fine, because they continue to work with the battery out, they just won't light up any more.

You really can't go wrong with pistols, Glocks are used by the majority of police departments, so there is familiarity there if you get used to using one, although there are better pistols out there. Really, just find one that fits and that you like shooting.

Get at least one pump-action shotgun. They can be used to fire 12 gauge flares, breaching rounds, non-lethal rounds, bird-shot for hunting, buckshot for defense/hunting larger game, and just about a hundred other purposes.

Lastly, if you need a forth gun, I recommend a bolt-action sniper rifle, with a high-quality optic, for really long ranges. That should nicely round you out.

But I also think people should buy less weapons and more ammo. Having 4 weapons in 4 different calibers means 4x the ammo cost.

You should have a few thousand rounds on hand.

I bought my first shotgun for Y2K, when the computer infrastructure of the world was supposed to fail. I knew this wouldn't happen, but like you, I thought there was a chance that enough stupid people could cause a bit of rioting and I lived right behind a grocery store. Mostly it was just an excuse to buy another gun.

I agree with the above that if this really happened what you'll want is lots of ammo and fast reloading. 9mm, .40 or .45, a 12ga and as for a rifle I'd start with choosing ammo that suits close quarters and is affordable and work from there. Probably .223 and there are a ton of rifles that fire this round.

I know that Kel-Tec makes them in 9mm and .40 in models to accept several types of magazine(i.e. Glock, beretta, etc.). I've shot the 9 and it's pretty accurate at 50 yds. Not recommending the K-T, just sayin that a pistol and rifle with the same ammo/clip would be a solid set-up. But, the .223 is a much more effective round.... you gotta weight the options.

And for backup I'd recommend the MP7 (AR range, <9mm recoil, great versatility through Picatinny rails etc)

Also, the calibers around 4 to 7 mm are the new wave against personal armour, having greater AP ability but less weight as far as load is concerned...
