Places that usually have alright prices on Saigas are carolinashooterssupply, mississippiautoarms,
classicarms.us and
centerfiresystems.com.
Prices are up, and they're only going to keep going up and the availability is really going to drop in the future.
I'd go with 7.62x39. The mags and rounds are cheap and it's just a good match with an AK. That's what I went with and it's surprisingly accurate.
The conversion isn't really too bad. I'd never done something even remotely similar before and I think I did alright. The only part I needed help with was tapping the hole in the front trunnion for the bullet guide because I don't have a tap handle thingy or anything but a friend did.
It gets a little scary grinding shit off of your barrel (if you're replacing the gas block and front sight base) but just go slow through the whole thing and you'll be fine.
this guy makes a good point
>>8765149. Definitely join the saiga-12 forums and get some ideas as well as look at the instructional threads. I could not have replaced my gas block and fsb so easily were it not for a thread someone else posted on there.
Also he was thinking of a handguard retainer. You need a standard gas tube as well.
