so /k/, is it really offensive to people in the military if you wear dogtags, or for that matter a family members old army/usmc tee if you have never served

i got a set of dog tags from an rotc program in high school and wear them because i wasn't a miserable sod back then and enjoyed it, but every fucking jodie come's up to me says "whats with the tags you aint in the military"

guess im just ranting but is it offensive to the brave men and women who did serve?

If it's just a child, then no one cares. If it's an adult and he's not in the military, then it's kinda pathetic.

Something that is worse, however, are guys who leave their dog-tags hanging in the open when they go out on the town. Put that shit away. It's not made of 14k gold and diamonds.

They're still useful as a civilian. If you are ever in an accident or something and comatose, paramedics could use the tags to identify you. Anyone you complains just has a dick up their ass.

No one I know really cares, but if we find out it's for your grandfather who served in WW2 or something like that then we think that's awesome. I don't wear them around all day but I know people who do, but when you're in the military you don't wear them to flash them in peoples faces, you either tie them in your boot laces or wear it inside your shirt.

If you're an adult and have not been in the military then that's pretty gay.

I was wearing mine a while back that my girlfriend got me, because I'm enlisting soon, and a recruiter came to my school, and as I passed, I heard him mutter to the other guy "Dogtags have become fashionable these days, wow" and I wanted to punch him in the face because I keep them under my shirt but I guess she saw the chain around my neck. It was some black Marine who left his cover on the floor while he was sitting. A teacher called him out on it because he son is a marine, haha

I wear my wife's dogtags. Its pretty much all I have left of her. They are normally inside my shirt but sometimes fall out when I'm doing stuff. Sometimes I get comments about wearing a necklace when its inside the shirt, and other times I get the run around about dog tags out of service when they are outside. Usually when they hear why I have her tags they shut up.

When I got out the first thing I thought was "I never have to wear fucking dog tags again". So.. if I see anyone that isn't active service wearing them I'm a little confused, but not offended.

As far as ARMY, NAVY, MARINE or COAST GUARD* tee's, I consider it just a shirt and don't get worked up.

People that get too damn excited about little shit, now that pisses me off.

* I've never, ever seen anyone that isn't in the air force wearing an air force tee. And they seemed embarrassed by it.

As a civ, I kinda see the practicality of dog tags, not the fashion.

that's my opinion. I mean, it's like a wallet printed in steel on your neck. A lot easier than carrying around a wallet full of stuff like insurance info or like your social security card or shit like that.

They can identify you just by your tags, know your blood type, allergies to medications and stuff. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'd like to think that if I got into a car accident, I'd like the paramedics to immediately know it's ok to give me penicillin but that I have ulcers so they can't use morphine and will have to use a substitute, instead of having to sit there bleeding to death while they scramble to find my records.

But that's just me.

Most people don't need that kind of stuff. If you are really worried, get it inked on the inside of your forearm.

Oh, and dog tags -do not show important allergies or conditions-. They have your blood type and what kind of preacher you want to say goodbye if you die.

Though I was right about the blood type. Still, I think a dog-tag style necklace might be an interesting option to the bracelet...since a bracelet is a bracelet.
