Hello /k/
I purchased this firearm at a garage sale today and was hoping to do some research on it. the only identification on the barrel is as such:
TRADITIONS Spain .45 cal [serial number]
Black Powder Only

ran a quick google search but that didn't turn up a whole lot. i'm looking for several things such as whether it would be safe to fire, what powders, caps and ammunition works best with it and an ideal of the age and value.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could be of service in pointing my to a valid resource.

You have a build-it-yourself pistol. They're about like the CVA kit pistols.

Safe to fire? Probably. Powder? Try Pyrodex P (that's pyrodex for pistols). Caps? Try Remington #11 or CCI #11 percussion caps.

Ammunition? Cloth patch ball is the traditional way.

Age? Lolyoung.
Value? Forget it.

Yeah, google just brought up a bunch of sales sites, i was hoping for something more specific on this firearm as opposed to general information as it's my understanding that black powder guns can be a little..."finicky".
this is my first muzzle loading firearm, and I'd rather not blow my hand off because I was all "herpderp new toy, must go shoot NOW"

thanks for the information btw. I'm not expecting much out of this pistol, if it works properly, awesome. if not, i'll have a neat little display in my apartment.

You're welcome. MAKE SURE to clean out the bore with windex or warm ammonia plus dish soap (like dawn) after you've fired it or you won't have it long. After that, use solvent and patch as normal, leave in the sun to dry.

Buy some stuff called "Bore Butter" as it makes it FAR easier to clean after firing and helps lube the bullet, increasing your velocity slightly.

Also, you probably don't want to go much over 40 grains of powder in that thing and you'll be eternally fine.

Also, get a .45 black powder accessory kit from cabelas.com

Also, you can't see it all that well in the picture, but there are two triggers. There is no discernible purpose for the second one and I was curious about it.
with the hammer down, pulling the secondary "locks" the trigger and pulling the primary trigger releases it.
with the hammer half and fully cocked the secondary trigger does nothing.
any ideas?

It's a kit gun, probably not too accurate. A friend purchased one of these type guns and said the parts required a LOT of extra work to get them to fit together. Personally, if I had one of these cheap guns, I'd use it as a blunderbuss and fill it with glass/bird shot.

you're talking about the double set triggers.

one drops the hammer, the other one releases tension so the firing trigger has a superlight pull at that time.

you only notice it when it's cocked.

I think I have all my immediate questions out of the way, thanks for being so helpful. (something very surprising on /k/, i half expected this to spur an argument on these types of firearms being obsolete or something of the sort)
