Hey, just wondering something here. I'm planning on getting a small handgun for HD purposes. Two houses in my block have been broken into already, and the intruders were armed with knives for the second house. I don't have enough money to move somewhere else, and the economy is still not the best to change jobs. Since my money is a little tight, I'm wondering if buying a high-powered BB gun would suffice for "training", or if I should invest in going to a shooting range with ammunition. Also while I'm at it, I'm wondering if there are any good, not too expensive handguns that I can buy. I know there's always Google, but I think /k/ can give a more accurate review of a gun with home defense on mind, not my money.

NO BB GUN!! BB GUN BAD!! Just go get you a cheap/reliable (<-- bet that'll get green texted) handgun. Hi-Point C9 - $150 reliable, too heavy, ugly as shit, bad ergos and weight distribution. S&W Sigma VE - $250 simple glock clone. the gun is great and very reliable despite what ppl may say, don't listen. The only bad side is a heavy DAO trigger pull but it's alright once you get used to it. S&W SD - $400 much like the Sigma, but it has a far better trigger pull, and a front night sight. also it feels better. Nothing really wrong with it at all. hope this helps.

I'll look into the guns you mentioned.
Also, I never knew handguns went as cheap as $150. Thought they'd be 300+ or so.

>>8777098 You can also get a CZ-82; 12+1 of 9x18mm Makarov, only $225, extremely high quality for a military surplus weapon.
There's also Glocks. $425 should get you a new one with 2 spare mags.

>>8777063 if you want to use the sigma cause its good and cheap you can actually take out a spring and replace one to make the trigger pull less heavy, theres a bunch of youtube videos showing how, im actually in the process of getting one too but i settled on a EAA witness 9mm with a .22 conversion! its only like 407 plus shipping and transfer fess but you get a .22 cal barrel and mag to practice shooting and the 9mm for when it counts!

>>8777113 That seems pretty nice.
I'm probably not going to kill them if they rob me with a knife. It'd be better if I just shot them in the kneecap or somewhere that would disable them enough so that they would remember how stupid they were.
Then they get to go to jail as well.

>>8777138 Probably a bad idea because they could possibly sue yes. Yes home invaders can fucking sue you for hurting them. I think we should cane the shi-well I won't get into that but just look up the laws in your area and know them. Know them very, very well.

>>8777177 Hm. Can't I plea self-defense if he charges at me with a knife?
But I've also heard of stories where burglars have sued home owners because they cut themselves on the window that they broken open. So I believe there are probably crazy laws where such a case can happen.

>>8777263 Yeah I don't plan on charging gun drawn whenever I hear a window being broken or a door being kicked in.
A gun is more to protect myself in case my phone is out of batteries and I can't contact anyone. (I disconnected my housephone to save money since I have a cellphone).

>1) overkill the shit out of them. -or-
>2) you do not shoot them at all. either you're life is in danger and you are going to die, or it is not. that is all.
I don't know the laws about brandishing a weapon or whatever, but i doubt if you scare a robber out of your house by pointing a gun at him that he is going to come back.

I hate to be this guy but I'm going to anyway.
Get a shotgun instead.
Rather than pay $200 for some jamtastic piece of shit gun just get a low end pump shotgun. Pic Related. $180 out the door for a well made Remington 870 clone. Also, check pawn shops for one of these or a Maverick 88.

Get a Mosin-Nagant rifle. Comes with a bayonet. Just kidding... The shotgun is a good idea, value-wise. Not much money can get you a lot of self-defense. The ammo for it can be kind of expensive, and it might be hard for you to find somewhere to practice, depending on where you live. If you want a handgun, go to the local ranges and try a few out and see which you like. You probably want something in 9mm or .38 Special. The ammo for those can be cheap, which means you'll practice with it more and have a better chance of coming out on top if you ever actually end up in a self-defense situation. The guy that suggested the CZ had a good idea... the Makarovs can be great value, too, if you find a good one. Inexpensive and reliable.
