For a SHTF scenario, it seems a normal assault style rifle would be less than ideal. assault rifles are built for militaries that use numbers and are required to do maneuvers. in a shtf scenario it seems that hunting rifles would be the preferred primary weapon because the numbers would be smaller. what is /k/'s primary weapon in a shtf scenario and can you provide a rationalization. pic related, its my primary weapon.

If anything, I'd have a bolt action as a back up weapon and a semi-automatic as the gun I grab first. I'd have to say SKS because I know it inside out, it's easy to use, semi-auto, and uses a widely available caliber.

Depending on how shtf, you probably don't need a lot of range. If it's a "social collapse" then you'd probably be better off with a decent pistol. Anyone with impure intentions probably isn't going to make those intentions clear until he's up close. You aren't going to be able to tell friend from foe at 300 yards, and carrying a rifle around everywhere is kind of asking for it. I'd only want a rifle for hunting inna woods, or if it was the "oppressive government" scenario.

Depends on the exact situation. Generally if SHTF, I'm going to be holed up in a defensive position with my mossberg 590a1, glock 17 by my side. If the situation dictates me taking an offensive role, I'll be hiding somewhere else, engaging targets guerrilla style with my remington 700. AR15 or .308 semi depending on the environment. If I had to pick one, I'd choose the 15. Bolt gun is too situational for general use. Under 300 yards or so you don't need a full power round, and you have an extreme disadvantage with that action.

If SHTF, a .22LR will provide you with your daily ration of small game, and you'll be able to carry enough ammo to last through whatever journey you may be required to take. From a survival perspective, a .22LR is hard to beat. If you're up against zombies, however....
Tyranno?oo
I believe in a light, handy carbine in a caliber that's readily available and also light and easy to carry, yet still is quite lethal. Some people have shit that is just way too fucking heavy and loaded down with gadgets. I don't really put stuff together or buy with SHTF as my primary reason though. I actually put my AR together with the thought of hunting antelope in mind as well as just having fun inna woods and getting proficient at using it since it will be my go-to home defense rifle. I want something that will be super easy to carry around on the prairie for days that I put on 10-15+ miles. You get all the try hard tweens with the "durp u shud work out if thatz to hevy" comments, but ask anyone who's actually had to carry a rifle up a mountain or over long distances and they'll tell you what's what.

To be honest, if I were in a SHTF situation. I would have a bolt rifle with iron sights and a scope on quick release rings. A handgun as a backup and that's it. In my SHTF situation I wouldn't be making a heroic fight against an invading force. I'd be keeping my head down, helping the resistance where possible and staying as mobile as possible. Spending any period of time in one place will get you killed. Hence you're 11 rifles, 43.5 handguns and the civil war cannon are redundant.

If shit really did hit the fan you'd want a minimum of 3 firearms: 1: a carbine, I'd probably take a Ruger Mini 14 over your average AR, less prone to jamming, requires less maintenance than an AR. Only real draw back is that everyone and their brother has an AR, and AR mags specifically. Thankfully factory Ruger mags work perfectly. 2. A bolt gun, eventually wear and tear will render your carbine useless or you're going to run out of ammo. A 30-06 or .308 will serve you well, bolt action rifles such as the remington 700 are common, reliable and encourage you to conserve ammo. 3. a .22lr when all else fails.
Anonymous
>>8779160 It's reliable, reasonably accurate, rugged, and chambered in a powerful and readily available caliber. It's easy to strip and clean, and is an all around damn good shooter.
