Greetings /k/ommrads
I have a question, I was watching cops the other day (I know I know, laugh all you want.) but I saw something and it made me think... Was that cop in his right to do this? He basicly took a guy down for not taking his hands out of his pockets. I got a clip but some douchebag dubbed over it with shitty music. But anyways, was the cop in the right or was it just being a dick to this douche?

Yeah but at the same time he wasn't being threatening, he was just being a dick. IT seems like it could of been handled differently with out tossing him to the floor and making him cry.

Nobody's 100% in the right. The guy was fighting, so the cops have an excuse to treat him like a violent suspect. However, he wasn't acting physically threatening or presenting a clear and present danger, so throatslamming his ass to the ground at the drop of a hat was a bit of an overreaction.

In the end, the results would've dictated whether the cop's actions were right or not. If the guy had an unregistered gun or a shitload of heroin in his pockets, then the cop's actions would likely be seen as rational.

If he broke his skull on the pavement and died/became a vegetable, best believe that cop would be in deep shit.

Personally, I think the cop overreacted a bit, but that guy was a fucker so it's hard for me to feel bad for him.

it looks like he just did it to assert his authority and be a huge asshole but what he explains makes perfect sense. he had every right to do that as over the top it was because the guy's arm tensed in his pocket as if he was gripping something. whether that's is true is a whole different subject

The reason they say "put your hands in the air" is to make sure you wont grab for a weapon. You don't comply its a presumed threat.

He could have had a knife, or even a gun.

When a cop asks you to move your hands you fucking do so. Most of the time its to make sure you are not a threat in anyway.

As for throat being appropriate, well hindsight is 20-20 and fear of death is never a concern of past events. It was a gut reaction to eliminate a possible threat.

Doesn't matter. The cop doesn't know what is in the guys pockets, and has no idea if he is going to reach in and pull out a handgun, or if he is just fidgeting.

Because it is a threat to have your hand on a weapon in front of a person, let alone cop. If a cop suspects you are touching what could be a weapon in conversation he has to assume you may intent to brandish it.
