when you chamber a round in a semi-auto pistol, are you supposed to pull the slide fully to the rear and then just completely let go of it? or do you ease it home?

i've never shot a gun before, i'm just curious. insanely hard to get a gun in my country.

so it's better to just let it go and let the full force of the slide run home? yeah, i guess it makes sense, since that's what the gun is doing everytime it's fired anyway.

It's a fucking machine, don't baby the thing. Think of how fast that slide is going when it cycles a round, you're not going to do any damage by just letting it ride home.

Not really, seeing as how this is a VERY common mistake with newbie shooters, it gets done a lot to millions of guns every year. Also, the same thing is happening with a normal jam due to weak ammo or bad magazine, it won't hurt anything in the gun.

I mean it might weaken parts if it's happening constantly for a very long time, but under normal operating conditions, no.

And yes as everyone else has said, you want to let go of the slide and let it rocket into battery.

It's a gun, obviously it's meant for the action to be let go forward since that's how it fires.

This, the slide is designed to be operated extremely fast.
