I dont usually browse this board but, seeing as I have a few hours to kill, I figured that Id make one of those "Ask an xyz anything" threads
The topic: Ask a conscript who is doing his 6 months of military service in Austria anything.
Only 70 days or so left for me.

Yes and it is quite hilarious.
One recruit even told one to an instructor but he didnt give a rats ass, but he did tell us a joke oafterwards, but not a nazi one.

Afaik, no fully automatic weapons are allowed to be owned by civilians but the STG77 is avaliable with a smaller mag and semi auto.
Handguns and hunting rifles/hunting weapons are allowed to be owned.

What we did in the first 5 weeks should have been the same in all barracks and also for those who want to make stay in the army.
There are different programs peope who want a carrer in the army can do. First is the minimum of 6 months, then 1 year voluntary service, then 3 years being a nco and then theres 1 year voluntary service to become an officer. And you can go to the MilAk, which is the military academy to become an officer.

There may be differences in what is taught in the BA1(basis ausbildung 1 - basic training 1) as some are pioneers, jäger, panzergrenadiere, etc.
And the BA2 and BA3 are done in the same barracks, at least the BA3, because that is for those who go to some foreign country for 6 or 12 months. I think you can stay down in some shithole longer but I dont really know.

You get a fat pacheck of about 20k in 6 months if youre anything between a recruit to a zugsführer, which is the highest rank below an nco rank.
I heard a colonel would get something like 12 a month but that seems way too much, but it was told to me by a Lt.

Basic training is actually 3 months in Germany, at my base conscripts and future NCO's were even thrown in the same platoon during basic. Since we all were recruits everybody had to do the same amount of work, but the future NCO's sometimes had to do a little more.
On the other hand i've heard stories about basic training at other bases, where only NCO's do basic training, and their basic is a fucking joke compared to ours (and i'm sure basic is way harder somewhere else as well). Might be because these people applied for Luftwaffe, you know how the chair force works.

every german soldier in the shithole that is Afghanistan gets 110€ each day on top of his normal payment. Usually deployment is 6 months so that's some 20000€ to spend, not that bad.

I wasnt a gun nut or anything before being drafted, but I did fire a few guns before and I must say, over 300 m the normal scope fitted onto that thing is pretty dang good, or rather the gun fires well when the scope is adjusted properly. On 300 m a target of 1.8-2 m fits inside the circle used at the crosshair and at the firing range I seldomly got anything but 10s or 9s.
At close range its pretty good as well and even when one could hardly see while wearing the gasmask it pretty much went where you wanted it to go.

Its the standard side arm but we didnt get to use it since it starts with teh BA3 when you use the P80.

well we germans do fire the P8 (basically full sized 9mm USP with inverted safety lever and non-polygonal barrel, also transparent magazines) quite often, and it is a lot of fun.

pic semi related, it's me playing around with a P8 while taking a shit on guard duty, at 4:17 am.

Was with the mountain rangers(Gebirgsjäger, dunno how to translate) Got mountain boots, not the standard lowland military boots. Love my em, using them on private mountain tours now

Australian soldier here, we also use the Steyr. Are the ones you use an absolute motherfuck to clean after firing? My Gas Piston takes a good 30 minutes just to get rid of carbon.
