Of all the guns I own the 10/22 was the only one I've bought new. It has been the second most dysfunctional after a Mosin that nearly kB!'d on me. It is so poorly made that if you take the receiver out of the stock the pins holding the trigger assembly on simply fall out. I recently lost the pin that holds the magazine release in place while fiddling with the gun at a range because the whole thing shook itself loose (the barrel was loose from the receiver which was loose from the stock). And I paid 230$ for this? I also had to pay an additional 75$ for a pair of sights I could actually use whereas I could have bought a 150$ Marlin which I would have been happy with in its stock configuration. Lesson learned. Marlins are better in every single way.

You know what, I advocate almost anything over the Ruger 10/22 EXCEPT those "tactical" .22 rifles. Those things are a total ripoff. They are cheap cash-ins so the quality tends to be lousy but they are still so overpriced you could buy a cheap but perfectly usable semi-auto centerfire gun for only a little more and sometimes even less.
For instance the SIG and those gay little Umarex M4s run around 500$. You can get a lower-end AK, build an AR or buy a police trade-in Mini-14 GB for that kind of cash. They defy the point of buying a .22 rifle.

Not to mention that most of them are just airsoft guns that have been gutted and had a shitty .22 receiver dropped in them.

Ruger's SR-22 is the worst of them though. It makes the GSG-5 look good in comparison.

You can build a good AR from the scratch, putting inside everything you'd eventually want to.

Can't do that with a 10/22.

Also, my opinion? Wasn't THAT bad, though it did have plenty of failures to feed. I blame the poor shape of the gun (it was a range gun, you know what that means), and the shit quality of ammo.

Marlin 60 performed better though.

Uh...you can replace literally every part of the 10/22 with a myriad of aftermarket options.

I would know, here's my target from shooting 200 yards with mine yesterday.

Ran out of up adjustment on my scope and had to hold over few inches above the target. Wind gusting from 3-7mph left to right.

Ammo was Eley Sport. ($3.50/box of 50)

I will be buying one of these magazines.

It was really fun shooting them this far. With my 8-32x scope I could actually watch the bullet impacts.

My buddy has a 10/22 with a lightened factory trigger, and he sandpapered the inside of the stock with a dowel to float the barrel- he was hitting one of these 50 yard slow fire pistol targets at 200 yards. Little more erratically than my modded 10/22 though.

Or you could buy one that was completely modified by someone else for less than $800 (including the Burris Signature 8-32x50 scope)... like mine.

Volquartsens are nice, but spending more than $1000 on a 10/22 and not even having an optic to show for it.. I haven't shot one, but it better shoot damn good- I'm pretty happy with mine.

I watched them for online for 2 months before I spotted this one.

With Wolf Match ammo I consistently shoot sub-MOA groups at 100 yards.

It is a little bit of a weird feeling shelling out $3-5 a box for 50 rounds of 22 ammo, but match 308 ammo for my Steyr Elite is nearly $30 a box.

I'm hoping to learn a lot about reading the wind and how it effects the flight of the bullet by putting a lot of 22 rounds downrange at 200.

That'll be useful when I start to push the limits with my Steyr once I master the 600 yard range.

My 600 yard accuracy with the Steyr is just a little better than my 200 yard accuracy with the 10/22.
