Hey /k/, Question for milguys, who controls the nukes? Does each branch have some? Because I know the Navy has the ability to carry them on subs, but do they operate the ones on land as well? Also, how do I get to be the guy that launches the nukes? I know you can't just ask for it when you go to recruiting office, but what job puts you on the right path?

Ultimately the Executive branch does.

The nuclear triad is bombers, subs, and ICBMs. 2/3 of that is Air Force. Relevant AF jobs are space & missile ops and bombadier (bomber CSO). Subs are probably submarine warfare officer.

I believe the AF and Navy have vessels that can launch them but it's the President (really Congress) who orders the launch. As for which MOS, I'm not too sure but you for sure have to go through multiple background checks and you have to be a high-ranking officer. Your best bet is, again, Navy or AF, both of which require very good test scores.

Oh really? That's interesting. I always thought that was if another country launched them first. I could've sworn if the President wanted to launch a preemptive strike, he had to ask Congress.
