I thought I wanted an AR, and I still do, but I want a battle rifle more. I don't want the extra recoil or cost of 7.62 for this particular role, so where does this leave me? I want something clean and sturdy looking like a battle rifle, yet cheaper to feed and softer recoiling like an AR. SIG 556 is the closest thing i've found. SIG 55x pics and discussion in here.

well if you can afford it then you mite want to look into 6.5 its a 500m cartrige easy out of an AR with a 20 in barrel but the downfall of it like i said earlier is that its expencive like close to a dollar a round.

other than that you mite considet going with a FAL or M1a (and i know that /k/ has its opinions on both rifles but both are valid choices) and putting a componsator on it and a recoil pad that would help with the recoil other than that i dont know what to tell you

I can take the recoil, but while the thump of a full power round is smile inducing, it wears on you. And one cant shoot as much 5.56 as they can 7.62 for the same price.

6.8 SPC has lackluster ballistics compared to any other midbore AR cartridge, or heavy weight OTM bullets out of 5.56.

It's basically only good in the same envelope as 7.62x39.

Why don't you just buy a nice Halo battle rifle, you can mount it on your wall and show all your friends, and be super cool. If you want a weapon you can shoot though aesthetics should be very nearly if not your last concern.

SigUSA is fuckin' shit up. Original Swiss Sig556's are awesome, but US made Sigs have enough issues to be considered crap. Then they tried to come out with the Sig556R in 7.62x39, which turned out to be a POS.

Well my friend has a SIG556. I went to the range with him once and he had it. it was fun as shit to shoot, i don't even recall it jamming.

I think he said he had to return it after his first week of having it due to something wrong with the firing pin. But they fixed it and that was a year ago. no problems ever since.

Don't get it, the SIG 510 is ugly and heavy, but otherwise an excellent rifle, specially with a scope. The milsurp semi autos go for around 500 swiss francs here and there must be hundred thousands of them around. Why are there none in the US of A?
