lets have a World of Tanks thread.
This game is pretty /k/-related when it comes to tank models and gun selection but plays fun and arcade-like.
For all that don´t know this game: its an multiplayergame where you drive around in an german/american/soviet ww2 tank/tank destroyer/spg and fight against the other team to earn credits and upgrade your tank. also its free-2-play.

Does anyone play it yet? I´ve on my way to the Jagdpanther and driving a Stug III at the moment.

there is a cash shop, but the only thing that will affect your gameplay is the ammunition with a bit higher penetration that you can buy.
everything else is just for speeding things up like premium account for 50% more exp/credits per battle or you can pay gold (real money) to train your crew instant at 100% instead leveling them.
You can buy more slots for your garage and there are several premium tanks but they aren´t better than the normal ones (many are extremly weak), they have just less repair costs.

there is no way to be a god amongst the others because of spended money in this game.

The KV is a Monster, but that comes because its a Tier 5 Heavy, and the matchmaking System puts it against 3-7 Opponents. That means if its in a 3-5 battle, its dominant. But it can be killed by a Tier 3 Marder II with 3-4 shots over distance and the KV can´t even see the enemy if the Marder II driver knows to play.

I think the Russian Tree´s aren´t that much overpowered, but they have some Tanks that are the best of their Tier (KV, T-54 for example) which are played very often because of this.
The other Nation Trees have some of the best Tanks too: German Leopard is easily the best Light Tank ingame, Marder II is the best Tier 3 since it can kill everything up to Tier 6.
The american artillery is extremly good and their guns are great in general

The KV can't take a 76mm shot to the rear from a Marder II/The 105mm from the Hetzer or any sustained Panzer IV fire, much less the barrage of SPG fire that is likely to come after the Light tanks spot it.

KV's also slow as hell, but can one-shot most Tier 3/4's. Personally though, I've had very little issues with them during the Betas and even now. That being said, the T-54 is a tank that needs a bit of a nerf for it's tier.

It really doesn't take long to rank up if you're decent. I mainly fly, and I can get up the moderate rank aircraft in a few days.

Love playing it, Rocking a KV at the moment and basking in its glorious derp gun glory! I'm also headed down the american heavy and medium line. The t-54 will not get a nerf anytime soon, instead the other line's of medium tanks will be getting a buff. I just hope to get the actual release patch soon so they can fix the tracking system and spotting system.

nope, they just revised the tank tree, IS-4 and IS-7 are now tier 10 tanks, VK tanks of germany has been split to give room for the E-series tanks, and the American line has a new tier 9 medium and a tier 10 heavy

T-28 is a joke.
KV is nice only with that last gun for 16K credits but eveb with dat huge penis he constantly gets into battles with IosifStalins and T29s.
Yeah, KV has that one cheap 122mm, but you might end dead a thousand times while the gun is reloading.

The Lee wasn't so bad either, I grinded mine to elite status. But if there was a tank I absolutely hate it's the Pz3/4. Fuck this thing.

I just unlocked the PZ III/IV after some time suffering with the PZIII. You get tracked just by getting looked at, what most times negates your superior speed. It was fucking frustrating to play with it.

It's actually a great machine. Slow and unmaneuverable but has fantastic armor (sometimes stopping shells from level 8-9) and the top cannon stings really hard and it also goes on the IS.

not who you responded to but if you liked the KV you'll love the kv-3. if you didn't like the kv then you'll dislike the kv-3. kv-3 was just as heavy and slow but it's your first real taste of the 122 on a platform that can take a hit or two (290 more hp than kv) but it's still a battle brick even when fully upgraded and a great arty magnet. you can't charge into the fray with it but a methodical advance is the key.
btw does the new tier mean no 107 for KV?

Ive played for about a month in January. The KV3?

Its hits like a truck. With ridiculous armor. Theres no chance my VK3601 can penetrate its frontal armor, even side armor.

The KV-3 is awesome, if you can deal with the low speed. It is armored enough to withstand most guns of it's own tier (German short 88 and US 75/76 mm will bounce 90% of the time) and the 107mm really hurts. The 122 hurts even more, but has a very slow reaload and bad accuracy.

with AP and no bounces that averages out to ~6.5 hits that don't bounce (barring ammo rack hit or fire)
meanwhile
107 mm ZiS-6 300/300/360 167/219/54 7.06
t-34 has 400HP
best of luck to ya but i was never scared of t-34s when i was rocking 107 in my KV. i guess if you got close and circled them you'd do well but who tries to get close and dogfight in a KV? just stay back and snipe with 107!

do you have a positive kill/death ratio?

the only vehicles in which i´m positive overall are the marder II and the t-57 (the only arty i´ve played so far) with both about 90 games and more than 100 kills

out of 80 battles in my leo I've survived 4, but that's my scout and It does its job well. if i get one kill per game I'm happy. My highest kill was 7 in my t-28 and I just rolled around and finished off the team.

I have nearly twice as many kills as battles (currently ~1200 / 600). Don't so shit like charging blindly into enemy lines to maybe kill a carless arty. When you're sitting in a smaller tank, find a nice bush to hide (especially the 'scout' tanks have an excellent stealth modifier) and provide a bit of extra view range for your team. Then, once the real battle has started and you can see where most of the opposing tanks are, either break through their lines to look for the arty, or circle them and attack larger tanks from behind. Whatever you do, don't go anywhere where you are the only target your enemies can shoot, be sure to always have a teammate nearby that looks more dangerous than you.

I haven't palyed since january. . I know it's released now, and a buddy told me they are about to change some of teh tech tree.

Is it worth to start playing again, or is it still 'play Soviet tanks to win'?

since the game is for free, i would suggest you play it.
you can have great games while driving german or us tanks as well as you can be suck terribly while driving a russian tank

They are right about the TD line though. The German final tiers of the TD line are awful compared to their Soviet counterpart. Let's hope the changes they did on the JagdTiger in 0.6.4 will make it suck less.

I have been getting one-shotted by the fucking Grille a LOT lately. I don't know how it does it, but the matches I play with/against it, the Grille manages to always get around 3-5 kills, and leaves the other arty in the dust. Quite confusing. I thought ti was supposed to suck.

Actually I checked the specs right now and Grille has the highest damage output for tier 4 artillery of 680 compared to 410 of the Priest and 290 of SU-5.

Hell yeah, im going down the open top line of TD's for germany. It look like they are getting all the best TD's.

The Emil and Stug E-100 are going to be game changers, and they put the Ferdi in the open top line.

I keep getting close range bounces on the side armor of the T-1 and M6 tanks. If the 76mm would reliably penetrate I would use it, instead I use the 105mm.

The marder III on down are all tank Destroyers with open tops to them. Meaning Huge view ranges with faster reloading speeds, Like the marder II.

Currently grinding exp on my KT to convert into free exp to get a panther II.

You only really 'need' premium, which requires 2500 gold a month (3k gold for 15k, or if you want the best deal on gold get 2500 for $100).

Other than that you spend maybe a couple K gold getting an initial 100% crew to unlock secondary skills. Then you can do what im doing and grind exp for free exp and convert it, but honestly im not doing that because its any faster or less of a hassle than grinding to new tanks the regular way, im only doing it to keep my stats page from being cluttered up by lots of little tanks i play a few hours and then throw away to get to the bigger tanks.

Just started playing yesterday. My only complaint so far is of course the same with all MMOs: no one wants to coordinate. Everybody just runs off in their own directions. You see light tanks rushing the enemy base, arties moving out in the open, etc.

Apparently company battles are frequent on the russian server, but the US one its pretty scarce, i would assume company battles would be better, but considering i see people advertising in general chat for people to join a company i dont know.

Thats a platoon, platoons join random battles togeather.

Companies are full 15 people groups, that join battles against other 15 people groups.

Since the matcher matches 15 people premades against 15 people premades it can require quite a wait before yours gets a match, if it ever does.

Ah, those ones. Protip: there is a "level cap" in those battles. The combined level of all tanks cannot be over 90(or 100, not sure) points. Obviously, there is nothing to do in those games without level 9-10 tanks and level 7 art so they usually are 7vs7 battles.

or you can realize that it's a team-based game, and if you can keep the heavy from killing you (or anyone else) by effectively disabling their gun, artillery will probably take care of them before you die if you can also communicate rather than stroking your medium tank's barrel all day erryday

If you're really skilled/lucky, you can take out the track of an attacking vehicle coming at you in close range. This will make their whole chassis turn violently and they will miss. Today I did this with my KV to a T29, I had the 122mm. Destroyed track threw his aim off, and he missed the next one too (we were really close), and then my teammates finished him.

well, how many wins/xp do you get with your easy eight with that style of play? In my two favorite tanks, the SU-152 and the Ram II, I have more than 60% wins over 400 or so battles, and I just don't see even a remote possibility of ever reaching that with the easy eight.

it's important to remember that the easy eight is a medium tank, and therefore can't be played like anything but a medium tank. You flank, harass, and withdraw before you get dead. While doing as much, you're also keeping shit lit up for arty. Your role isn't to rack up as many kills in front-armor pissing contests as you can.

Got a Elite T-28 in my garage, along with a 107mm KV, a 107mm KV-3, M3 Lee with the upgraded gun, M4 Sherman (trying to unlock the 105mm, the stock 76mm cannot penetrate a fucking thing. I JUST came out of a game where I was firing at the front glacis of a T-34 and NOTHING was getting through), and a M37 with the 105mm howitzer. The 105 for the M7 is powerful as fuck considering what it goes up against, but christ it is so inaccurate.

Gonna work my way up the American Medium and SPG line, and the Russian Heavy tree.

Most of my shots from my TD's come from spotted enemys, not ones i light up myself.

What, seriously? I rolled in a JgdPz IV during the beta, had more than 400 battles in it. The Long 88 is MORE than adequate for what you're dealing with. I would take moderate chunks of health out of IS3s and KTs.
