thinking about getting an SKS, I've always wanted a nugget but after actually getting to shoot an SKS, I realized the extra 100-200$ is worth it.

nogunz here, thinking of what to get for a first one. Looking at some milsurp rifles, though finding a place to shoot could be difficult (Illinoisfag). Handguns = lots of ranges. Looking at S&W or Glock polymer guns (or used Sigs) in 9mm or .40. Although, S&W 586s and 19s can be had for around $500 used.

Convince me, tell me I'm trolling, why it's a good/bad idea, etc.

S&W, Glock, and Sig are all good companies, but for your first I would suggest a Sig. A bit more pricey but the 226's are sturdy as hell.

Accurate and fun as hell. The recoil is manageable for "flinchy" shooters but still makes the gun feel like it has power.

.40SW is a rather snappy cartridge for a beginner, but a beginner doesn't necessarily mean a nogun.
.22lr pistols are great fun and great tools to teach beginners but as long as you aren't some pantywaist you can learn quite easily on 9mm. I know quite a few shooters that didn't start shooting till they were grown men and learned to be quite proficient starting with a 9mm.

My first gun was a POS charter arms in .38 special. I paid $130. After shooting it once, I could not get the cylinder to open. I never developed a flinch and if you do there are ways to train it out.

I would go with the SKS too if you have the cash.
For me once, I had the ak, sks, ar, m1, it was hard to decide what to get next. Went on a US military buying spree.

I shoot the shit out of the ak and sks. I shoot the others but not as much, hope to keep their value.

Campus service, when they build the new campus police station they built a shit ton of lockers for guns, they had to after they made a no-gunz policy on campus in the 90's, and no gunz in your cars in 2005. It's nice because you can have your guns here on campus, it's annoying as fuck because they keep you from having them in your dorm and have to go out of your way to get to the locker.

I've thought about it, but the SKS's here are all just out of my range for now, and this is for a second dick around gun that's not my .22, already have a semi-auto, so I'm hitting up a big fun gun with a bolt-action.

Don't be fooled by people who think there is big difference in recoil between 9mm, 40, or 45.

If you held a similar gun in each hand you won't be able to tell the difference in recoil

If you want a .40 then get one.

Well at least they considered it, thats more generous than most campuses.
Wonder how simple it would be to get it out to go range shooting... I bet they would escort you off campus? What about your return? Do they give you some deadline to have it back in the locker by I wonder?

It's right on the edge of campus, under a parking garage(half of which they claim for parking for visitors and such anyways). So they don't really need to escort you off campus anyways, you're practically off of campus in the first place.

And no problem, it's the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, they HAD to give an option. Too many people would've bitched and moaned and moved off campus for them to not do such a thing here.

I'm going in later to ask them some questions after I hit up the game and parks commission for public land I can shoot on, and then looking at a place that potentially has a nagant, or at least where I can order it through.
