I have, as of a couple of years ago, gotten really into guns. Recently, I've been thinking about buying one. Originally I was going to go for a 1933 Hexcaster Mosin Nagant a friend of mine was selling...until I saw this.

I am in love.

And I do think I am going to pick this up as my very first gun. But as my very first gun, I don't know what to really do with it.

Any advice? Anyone handled one? Whats the cleaning like? Anything I should be aware of before purchasing?

I'd love your help, /k/, if you can offer it.

Get the mosin instead. Enfields are fantastic guns, but ammo is so expensive you'll never get to shoot the thing. I'd suggest buying a .22 first to learn on, as a gun with high recoil will cause you to develop bad habits.

But if you must learn on a full-size rifle, 7.62x54r wont break the bank.

Why would you make your first gun an old, rusty bolt action rifle? .22lr or a 12 gauge are where I'd start out. Move on to historic rifles after you've gotten all the handling and safety down. And yeah, you're going to be spending lots of money on ammo. If you're completely heart-set on a bolt action, go with a mosin. The ammo's really cheap and so's the gun. But you could also get a PSL. It fires the same round in semi-auto with a removable magazine.

if you really want a Lee-Enfield but can't afford the .303s, why not go for an Ishapore 2A1? 7.62 NATO cal, Lee-Enfield smoothness, sights graded to 800 yards, 12 rounds in the mag. I don't know how much they'll go for, though.
