There's an old abandoned hospital in my city but I'd be too shit scared to go through it at night
Blackadder !hDddafoU.A
I explored a gigantic abandoned hospital with my friend when we were about seventeen We found one room that was full of cardboard boxes, as far as we could see in every direction. Inside the boxes were x-rays. I guess they'd been digitized or something. We decided to head underground to the lower levels, and after walking through quite a few pitch black rooms we came into a room with two metal tables in the middle with holes in them, and hoses over the tables. Most of the medical equipment, gloves, cleaning stuff, etc, was still on all the shelves. In the next room we found a wall full of little doors. We were wondering what they were for when we saw one that was opened and had a body tray slid out. By that point we were all freaked out and called it a day. There was also another time we explored this gigantic abandoned Victorian railway tunnel, about a kilometre long, under the city. At the darkest point in the centre, we stopped for a break, and made a little camp fire in the middle of the tracks. It was so strange, sitting around a fire in complete silence, directly underneath the town centre on a busy Saturday.

http://www.nrph.net/ On one level, it's a prime example of the fucking horrible mental healthcare system in the US: the place was shuttered soley to save money and NO effort was made to preserve the building or properly "decommission" it. Landscaping tools - including tractors - were abandoned in the sheds to rust and phones, computers and filing cabinets full of patient records abandoned on the inside. No fire sale/auction to dispense of it and raise a little money, no, they let it all rot.
But on another level... this place is fucking CREEPY. Kids from the nearby town have taken to "exploring" the hell out of this place, and a local news agency took a camera inside once. Underground access tunnels flooded with water, with power wires sparking and shorting out in it... empty hallways with flickering lights... and this is, naturally, a psychiatric hospital. It's like something out of a slasher movie, I fucking swear to god.

Me and my friends used to fuck around inside this abandoned power plant in OKC. It was cool, but dangerous, the stairs had missing sections where you could fall pretty far if you fucked up, and there were places where there were holes in the floor that went multiple stories down. It was a popular hangout for punks and drug addicts. The city would come in and weld steel plates over the doors, but within a few days that shit would be pryed open again. The entire center section of the plant was open from floor to celing, like 5 stories or so. We used to shoot off fireworks inside, it was awesome. One of my friends rappeled down the inside of the smoke stack once. The city demolished it about 10 or 12 years ago.

>>9251918 I imagine two camps. One in the abandoned suburbs, one nearer the city itself, similar to Skadovsk versus 100 Rads. /k/ommandos decide where the wish to be by what they wish to do. Survivalists wanting to test their skills and those wanting to occupy the suburbs stay in the suburbs, while Stalkers and traders occupy the city camp. Stalkers and explorers crawl through the ruins, looking for supplies and anything valuable. Stalkers eat and sleep and congregate at the city camp, while sometimes venturing over to the survivalist camp to trade weapons, ammunition, batteries, and artifacts. Traders take the artifacts and head out into. Civilization, pawning or ebay'ing artifacts and other recovered goods while buying ammo, food, medicine, and fuels. I imagine a small group of stalkers walking up to a truck in the suburb camp, with a tank on the back of it and a man leaning against it, one stalker clutching a 5 gallon gas can. He tosses the man a box of 9mm, and the man points to a nozzle. The stalker fills his can, gives the gas trader a nod, and walks over to a small 4x4 with a rickety cart attached to the back. Gas is expensive in the wasteland... Vehicles are only used by traders venturing back to civilization, and Stalkers carrying large loads. The other use of gasoline is as fuel for the three generators scattered about the wastes. The stalker bar in the city camp has one. Toss a few rounds of .308 or a few dollars to the guy running it, and plug in your chargers. For this reason, batteries scavenged from the wastes as well as new ones from the outside are highly prized. Lights and radios need power. Survivalists pass time using game boys.
This would make an awesome game.

As for the Walsenburg place, you can't really tell from the pictures but there is a huge substructure not accessible from the main building. There are a couple hole in the concrete out front of the building that you can squeeze down into to access it. In this area are some huge machines that look like forced air blowers, and a couple shafts. Both had cool air flowing from them and as cavers say, if it blows it goes. I didn't explore because I didn't have a proper light. One had the entrance half blocked by a partially buried wood door. I've gotta go back and make an expedition out of it.

>Never get near walk in meat lockers/freezers >Never get near elevator shafts, it's not uncommon for the threshold to fall out under your weight >Never go to a place at night, especially something in poor structural condition >And never go into a building that is flooded in the basement. I bet if we got together like 200$ we could buy a quarter of Detroit. With all of that shit lying around, we'd have defensible compound up in no time. After an extensive arms build-up and taking advantage of the collapsing national economy, we can declare our selves to be a new state. Our flag would have a pair of crossed nuggets. Start some small scale agriculture... import some women... things will be great in no time. We need a name for our state.

Many of us own weapons that were made on machine tools from some of these plants, and almost certainly many of the military vechiles and weapons discussed on /k/ were made with machine tools from these abandoned properties.
