Decision time for me /k/
I am going to be able to afford one of these rifles come Christmas. Or just after if I have to put it off. Which one should I get?
IAC 47 or the IAC 74
Both of them I want eventually but I can't decide on which one to buy first. I have never shot 5.45x39mm and the ammo is plentiful and cheap around here. 7.62x39mm is also plentiful and cheap and I have shot it in several SKS carbines so I am familiar with the round. I'm at an impasse decision wise. The IAC 74 is more money but not by much. What would you recommend I go with? What are some of the advantages of the 5.45 over the 7.62?
IAC 47

Start out with a 7.62 AK, then if you like the platform enough, get a 5.45 AK. The fact you have an SKS now means you have the benefit of not paying for two different calibers.

>>9687505 Ok well that does make sense, what kind of performance can you get out of the 5.45 though? I like the hit of a 7.62 on Coyote and Antelope when I use an SKS. The main purpose for this rifle is that you convinced me to get one for SHTF purposes. Damn you. heh.

That said, if you insist on it, you can get a saiga in 5.56 and convert it or an Arsenal SLR-106.
Red Dawn !HUMKYrK8X.
>>9687671 What makes it the best gun? Now I have heard you talk a lot about it but I am still unconvinced. I've fired them before, never owned one and I have been interested in the past but direct impingement is not something I really like as opposed to short stroke piston. This is a legitimate question here GiRL, what makes the AR so superior aside from the customability options.
Tricked !nBkoZiTdrE
>>9687446 The biggest advantage will be when you're running across the open fields, bayonet attached, screaming towards the enemies of the United States; the cunning Black Bear of North America. Having said that, the enemy is tough, well equip and on his own territory. For the purposes of assaulting the bears, the 7.62x39 round is going to a bit more damage, because frankly, these bears are heavily armored. Remember the Russians concept of the round spawned from the German machine gun fire over whelming the poorly equip conscripts of the Second World War. This in turn, lead them to create a rifle that could be fired very rapidly in the general direction of the defenses with a hail of rounds coming from a million other conscripts pouring out of armored personnel carriers.
tl;dr 7.62x39>5.45x39
GiRL! !!xfn1bmb3QAI
>>9687685 >what makes the AR so superior aside from the customability options. Light weight, accuracy, reliability, one of the largest aftermarkets for any guns, the ability to switch uppers, barrels, barrel lengths, and calibers easier than just about anything else at will and with nothing more than pushing two pins, inexpensive and large amounts of quality parts ranging from replacements to upgrades to magazines, readily available, simple and easy to use, etc.
The list goes on and on, and the AR manages to cover all of those things very well. There's not one single other gun in 5.56 that can cover all of those bases, and nearly as well as ARs do.
>direct impingement is not something I really like as opposed to short stroke piston. And this is because, wait, let me guess, you think direct impingement is unreliable? You actually listen to the morons who think you have to clean your gun every range trip? If you truly believe this, you have little to no understanding of what makes a gun run, or what it's capable of doing.
The difference in reliability between a quality AR and a quality AK is absolutely nothing. The important thing is that you're buying a quality gun to begin with, i.e. not low tier garbage like WASRs or DPMS.

If your budget and limit is within the range of $600-$700, then you would be better off sticking with the IAC in 7.62x39. If you're willing to bump your budget up another $200 or so dollars, or wait a little longer to get the parts, you can get a top of the line AR for a little over $800 after dealer and shipping fees.

>>9687833 Damn it now I need to know.
What would your recommendation be for an AR at about 800-900. I can put this off until spring to get the extra money if needs be. As GIRL mentioned, 5.56 should be reserved to platforms that were built with the cartridge in mind, and not just adapted for shits and giggles. If you don't like DI, there are piston driven ARs such as the Ruger sr556, but that shit is pricey.
>>9687728 As for DI vs Piston, that's assuming quality ammo. Some people are cheap when it comes to ammo. That's somewhere around or under $830 excluding your dealer fees, and will get you a stock/normal AR that hits the quality scale everywhere that matters. Buy a few PMags or aluminum mags with Magpul followers for about ~$11-15 a piece. You could probably save a little more picking other parts from other sites like Palmetto, but that's a fair pricing and BCM is a guarantee for quality.
It's all about what you want, but if you want a rifle or carbine in 5.56, an AR is truly your best bet. If you want an AK in 7.62x39 though, then go for that. You'll have to decide what you want.

>>9688449 That's up to you. You have a wide variety of opinions on the matter here, only you can decide what you want to purchase.
Anonymous
>>9688449 i wouldn't get a Century Arms imported hk91-93/cetme pattern rifle. That being said my ptr does not like tarred 308. That means no magtech (its shitty ammo anyway). The worst part about it is i have to PULL the bullet to check to see if its tarred. silver bear is confirmed for no tar though. as well as wal-mart ammo like federal powr shok and all that good shit (hunting fudd bullshit).
basically what happens is the tar comes out with the superheated gasses and gets blown back past the case (this is how the delayed blowback works, the gasses flow around the cartridge to help extract it) well that tar stickies up the chamber and prevents extraction after like 5-10 rounds of magtech (and other tarred ammo im sure is very similar)
the cases actually get stuck and you have to yank hyper-hard on the charging handle. but this is a non-issue if you shoot good ammo in the gun like you should anyway. im sure im leaving shit out but im so damn tired im not even capitalizing my letters anymore or forming good sentences.
Anonymous
neat little bit of info about the roller delayed blowback mechanism, it doesnt even require an extractor to function. the rounds extract almost entirely on gas pressure from the chamber. they wont leave the receiver however so ejection still requires the extractor to be installed on the bolt. there is a youtube video of someone taking the extractor out of a CETME and firing it showing that the rounds leave the chamber just fine but they wont leave the ejection port because there's nothing resisting the ejector to help throw the case out anymore. it just rides right over the ejector

Fields could be cultivated outside or hydroponics set up inside. Water would come from the surrounding aquifers and be treated. I have a notebook with about twenty pages on it buried in my closet. The total cost minus arms and initial food would run about $700. For 30 people that's not a bad deal.

those tiny 380 pistols actually have more felt recoil than 9mm pistols usually because the 380 works on pure blowback instead of short-recoil operation like most larger pistols use (1911, glock etc).

i told people to share images of their receivers if they could in order to corroborate or deny my theory. they just kept acting like a bunch of bullies and snickering about my posts. one faggot ass moderator actually bullied me and kept trolling my posts every time i asked people who posted in the thread to show me their receiver or to share any information they had regarding their own personal experience. he would basically answer for them before they could even answer. trying to tell me that im stupid and the sks doesnt need a buffer etc. i was just trying to get a discussion going not start a fucking revolution. my goal was to get a large group of people to submit pics of their receivers in the thread but only the inside rear part where the 2 dents were. i wasnt being a prick until that faggot moderator kept trolling my posts and wouldn't let the thread be. he didnt contribute in any way shape or form, he just kept harassing me. they told everyone in the thread to disregard my posts because i dont even shoot my sks etc.

have you ever disabled your gas system on your sks and fired it? just take the piston out and shoot it, you'll be surprised how much more "recoil" it has. its safe to do the gas just vents out the holes in the gas tube and probably into the rear sight block somewhat. of course you have to manually rack it.

>>9689036 i don't know why it wouldn't considering the force you impart on the carrier to work the action in the case of that HORRENDOUS ABOMINATION is the same force the operating rod (piston strikes it) imparts on the carrier, it just hits the carrier in the face and you hit it from the side using the charging handle. in theory it should be no different except you are now doing the work instead of the gas system. the falling block or tilt lock system is pretty resilient.
