Sup /m/, it's my first time here so I decided to be cancer.

1. What are some good mecha anime where the plot is actually significant and not just hurr durr we fight with robots? For example RahXephon, Gurren Lagann, Eureka seven.

2. Any actually good mecha games for either pc or ps2 that isn't called Zone of the Enders?

1. No series is "hurr durr we fight with robots". Except Getter Robo, but that's WHY it's awesome. If you actually pay attention there is ALWAYS a given reason.

Well, no shit. Let me rephrase it then, the reason has to be mostly interesting and not generic.

For example in this new Gundam the whole wars started because of coal based energy sources and with solar energy coming into the picture it actually started being interesting. For like 10 episodes. Then everyone started having homolust and secret twin brothers and giant gold mechs appeared from around the corner.

What do you mean? The story is generally relevant in the mecha battles that take place in 00. The plotline is generally advancing and it's hardly a show where the emphasis is strictly on the robots fighting. Whether it's good or not doesn't affect the fact that it does meet the OP's single specification.

Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam and Encounters in Space are the best that I've played. They're not spectacular, but they help give you a giant robot fix and nobody can deny that killing Gundams in a Zaku is totally awesome.

for games, look for a little series called another century's episode, or ace for short. or anything with the word gundam in the title. there is also front mission 4 and 5. try to get the third installment for ps1, very good.

fm3 and 4 are in english, fm5 is a work in progress and the ace series is all moon. no big deal though as i don't read japanese and i love this damned series. you can also get menu translations for ace 3, which can kinda be applied to ace and ace2, since the screens are somewhat similar. or just memorize the runes. either way, i never get bored with ace, especially 2 and 3. too much mecha pron.

1. Convoluted as it is, Zeta Gundam is rather plot heavy. Wing too, they do more talking in wing than fighting. I also suggest Code Geass if only just to try it out.
2. Any Gundam vs. game, SD Gundam anything, Super Robot Taisen anything, Another Centurys Episode, Robot Alchemic Drive, Heavy Gear, Bootfighter Windom.
I could list a dozen more for either question but I'm going on a 66 hour sleep-dep bender here so I'm a little schizo.

oh and for pc games, look for a little doujin called combat dx9, kinryu vs xentex. it uses a game engine inspired by the gundam vs series and features mecha dolls a la hoihoi san. in fact, a couple of hoihoi parodies appear in this game, with several nods at other mecha series. i think datorrents may still have it.

for anime, aura battler dunbine is good, dragonar isn't too bad, everything to do with votoms is good including armor hunter mellowlink. can't forget macross. vifam seems good so far. super dimension century orgus and orguss 02 are also pretty good. freedom is also good if you consider that to be mecha. blue sub #6. maico 3010 is a very different take on the mecha genre. starship girl yamamoto is ok if you like old animation. sol bianca isn't too bad. starship troopers ova. the third. tekkaman. a lot of other stuff that i can't remember. your most solid bet would be to go to anidb.net or animenfo and search by category then read the profiles.
