Does anyone find it odd that the officer ranks in Gundam are a little wierd? Or that at least lower ranking officers seem to have an inordinate amount of power for thier rank?

One example of this is Captain Bright. He was only a captain, but was placed in command of an elite task force that would have most likely been commanded by a vice admiral or higher in rear life.
