Not really close to any of those. Take Trigun, add mechs.

Goofy stand alone episodes for the first half, heavy action and plot in the second half.

I enjoyed it alot. Things get more retarded the more Fasalina shows up, though. Her robot and Saudade were my least favorite of the original seven. I liked the "Rapier" and Dann the best.

Vulcain/Vulcanus/Volcain is fucking awesome, though. It's hard to say why without spoiling anything.

The show was fun with moments of great drama. Unfortunately, the big bad guy plot is yet ANOTHER "reset the world" type that goes nowhere. What is it with Japan and resetting the world?

Well, I think Gun x Sword was poking fun at SEED Destiny's expense. Look at how many things they made of Destiny in GxS. Michael = obviously Kira. Both characters are voiced by the same seiyuu. And after sleeping with some manipulative bitch, Kira I mean Michael suddenly has a strong conviction of what he knows is "right" and loses all doubts to why he's fighting. And c'mon Saudade is parodizing Strike Freedom. And then look at Carossa and Melissa. That's Shinn and his sister Mayu. We have here a shit brat, Carossa/Shinn that's overly anal over his younger sister. Melissa has a hand-held tracking device with a strap that's very similar to Mayu's cellphone. And the Clawed Man is a bat-shit crazy megalomaniac whose plan is a deconstruction and critique of Dulindal's Destiny plan.

Gun x Sword had its own plot and was consistent with it (Liked how Van was all about revenge instead of delving into being a moralfag). But you can't deny that there were some pretty heavy-handed SEED bashing scenes in GxS. It's like Taniguchi said a big "You Suck!" to Fukuda. But then again, Taniguchi did disappoint me A LOT with Geass. Meh, I was hoping for something as good as Infinite Ryvius, Scryed, and Gun x Sword. How wrong I was...
