So /m/ i heard this is pretty good but that it's pretty emo, which leads me to this question. Is the main character a teen full of angst ? If yes then does everything else make up for it.

Yes, it does have a fair dose of emo and angst, but it's well-earned. The story is a tragedy type, so don't expect a whole lot of happy fun time. It makes Zeta Gundam look like rainbows and sunshine. Definitely one of my favorite shows.

Then yes.

Is there angst? Sure. But only because D-Boy's life sucks, and has one of the worst fates ever handed to a anime character.

What's with all these ridiculous idiots using words like 'emo' to describe something these days? Some dumb fad everyone keeps perpetuating ad nauseam. Makes no sense at all to use the word 'emo' as a negative term because humans are indeed driven by emotions. If you dislike emotional people that much then I strongly suggest a lobotomy or suicide to rid yourself of these obstacles. I'm guessing you meant 'melodrama' instead of the word emo. In that case, Tekkaman does have some melodrama but nothing to the point of being sappy. Angst is present but totally justified. Anway, just watch some episodes and decide for yourself if it's worth continuing. My opinion is that it's a fantastic show worthy of the praise but like I said, simply decide for yourself.

Easily my Favorite anime of all time.
As others have said, the angst element is there, but it isn't obnoxious like it is in so many newer anime. It's justified thoroughly by a tragic story, and handled in a mature fashion.

Sure he gets a happy end on SRW and whatnot, but fuck if things don't seem so....pointless/helpless at the near the end of the series. It really puts on the idea of 'These guys are FUCKED' better than other series do.

That's not really emo though. Emo was one of those terms that's been abused beyond recognition. When emo first started being used, it stood for someone who was depressed or overemotional for no good reason.

Emo is not a girl who is sad because her mother died. Emo is the girl who has both parents still alive, new clothes, a roof over her head, yet is constantly morose about how "life sucks".

I kinda wanted to tiptoe around D-Boy's ethical dilema and why it certainly isn't 'emo'... but it appears /m/ has gone ahead and spoilt that so I can be frank:

D-Boy is left with the sadistic choice, and moves along over the course of 50-ish eppisodes with only a couple major breakdowns. The first such incident was brought on by a particularily upsetting event which got the US run of the show cancled, while the second had more to do with him being severely braindamaged.

Definately not emo, though he realy does put on a lot of airs about his own abilities early on. ("I won't cooperate with the military! Rather, the military should cooperate with me!")

But yes, awesome series, though you can tell the animation was juggled between three or four different studios with vastly different levels of competence.

Tekkaman Blade is one of my all time favorite animes and The most favorite of serious anime.
It has everythini I personally like - the classic sci-fi feel to it, realistic characters, serious plotline, sufficient doses of hu,or and badassness, pretty good animation too.
D-Boy is one of few /m/ characters, who's angst is fully justified, and he gets a whole fuckload of AWESOME points for not falling into blind-rage-reveng er depressive breakdown after all the shit that happened to him.
