Star Driver is a satire.

Think about it. Did those of you who watched it all the way through expect something revolutionary? The first clue is the fact that Takuto's official title is the "Galactic Pretty Boy". It seems Star Driver is over the top and doesn't know what it's doing half the time, but that's the whole point.

SD is making fun of three different sub-genres of anime at once: slice of life, mecha, and magical girl. Each individual aspect of Star Driver is intentionally over the top and blatantly cliche because of its existence as a tribute to what are probably the three most prominent sub-genres of anime.

The show was never meant to be serious. SD becomes far more enjoyable once you realize this.
