I started watching G Gundam Ep 11 and I like it so far except for a few cultural references*cough*TequilaGundam*Cough*So i´m wondeing what does /m/ think of it?

It's silly, and a bit cliche sometimes, but it's a lot of fun too.

As long as you're willing to accept that it's not a traditional Gundam show, and just a super robot fighting tournament with Gundam-themed mecha designs.

Infact G Gundam has various Gundam base elements besides mecha design. Though viewed from a different and unreal perspective, it's still an anime with war as one of it's main themes, a tournament version of war, since this tournament basically rules over world politics. It has space colonies, and there are certain social conflicts between space colonies and Earth. It deals with human evolution in some way. There are also talks about environmental matters. And I may be missing some other points.

I think that people sometimes forget or simply don't see the whole thing Gundam is.

I'm surprised nobody ever calledSchwartz out on not being who he claimed, considering he's the only fighter who isn't a stereotype of the nationality he's fighting for, what with being a FUCKING NINJA and all that.I doubt he was a ninja before the encounter with the Devil Gundam (and subsequently being killed and DG Cell transformed into Kyoji.

Maybe Neo Hitler took over Neo Germany with his Neo Nazi Ninjas at some point and Kyoji is a product of the remains of said regime. No reason neo ninjas couldn't take up residence in Germany theoretically. It's the future - shit like that could happen. Let me get this straight. You argue that because someone would disagree with the completely arbitrary name you pulled out of your ass, others should not use the OFFICIAL english translation of the God Gundam? Yes, I said translation. Origins of the word aside, God has a very different social and cultural context in English speaking countries than it does in Japan. It makes the name seem awkward at best. Some might find it offensive. Burning matches the visual change of the primary attack, and serves to seem like the "next level up" from Shining.

And lol a halo on his back? More like the fucking JAPANESE FLAG. It represents Japan dumbass. Land of the rising sun and all that.

Yes and no.
Fact is, the subtitles still call them God and Devil Gundam.

The changed names for the dub were largely more thanks to Toonami airing it and following the network standards, with the merchandise being named to follow suit so there wouldn't be a stigma (for the most part. There's still the 'Mandala-Mandor' fuckup.)

Considering
a) Toonami was the big means of marketing the show
and
b) MSG's poor performance market-wise

They probably didn't see much point in then making a second 'uncut' dub for the show.

I would say that the subtitles remain as is more due to the fact that "God Gundam" is already in english. The disconnect from what is heard and what is read would be too jarring.

Another thing to consider about the dub is the lip flap. God has only one syllable in english, whereas Domon's pronunciation comes off more as God-O. I couldnt find a particular clip on short notice, but I'll bet there are at least some points where you see him speaking as the attack is going off. Burning would fit that lip flap a little bit better I think than trying to just ignore one of the flaps.
