I don't care if this anime is repetitive as shit. I don't care if a lot of the animation is recycled. I don't care if Wako is one of the most indecisive bitches in all of anime (okay maybe I do). I can't state exactly how I love this anime. It isn't by any means one of those top quality anime that are perfect in every way. However, it's one of those anime where you can just sit back and enjoy the amazing badass flamboyancy.

No one can dazzle that stage like Takuto. Thanks? for the upload.

And? Nobody ever says "Excuse GGG's stock footage, it's an old show". They say "Oh, well, it's awesome, so it doesn't matter." But somehow this doesn't apply to Star Driver. RahXephon has fights that end instantly, with no tension, but it doesn't draw flak for it when SD does. The vast majority of mecha shows ever have aimed for a female demographic with prettyboy designs, but SD is singled out for doing so.

Now, it's a show with legitimate flaws, as any show is, and as a matter of fact I prefer both RahXephon and GGG to it by quite a bit. But it's not the abomination /m/ claims it is.

I remember having to say the same about pretty much every show that's aired since 2007 or so...nostalgiafags errwhere

There's a large difference between a 7-10 minute fight scene with 3 or 4 minutes of stock footage and a 3 minute fight scene with 2 minutes of stock footage.

I get the impression this is the crux of the argument when it comes to Star Driver.

Regardless GGG is a better show overall because it ends up delivering eventually and hits that "shit just got real"period. The only part of star driver probably can be considered delivering was the finale, and even then it was only because of the animation. Story wise the finale was lacking.

When has anyone ever said that the fights were one of Rahxephon's strong points?
Infact when does /m/ praise Rahxephon at all?

Rahxephon has two strong points: episode 15 - Childhood's End and episode 19 - Blue Friend.
But just those two episode make it vastly better than Star Driver which never manages to be truly touching, heart wrenching, or really elicit anything in its whole run.

Star Driver is yet another recent Bones show taht's well aniamted and has good designs but is not particularly impressive in every other aspect.

Star Driver managed to be one thing. It managed to be fun. I turned my brain off and so I enjoyed it, like I did with Gurren Lagann and G Gundam and Getter Armageddon. But of course it was made after 2006, so naturally it's shit by /m/'s high standard of quality.

Also, fuck you, RahXephon had a lot going for it outside of those two episodes. Best /m/ show of the last decade is best.

Also the cast of GGG is ten times more fun and enjoyable than Star Driver's. We'd all be willing to forgive a lot more with Star Driver if the characters and their intereactions were fun.

You have all these hard working guys putting out the highest standard quality of tv animation of basically any studio and for what? Shows that always manage to somehow end up being pedestrian and mediocre.

Bones needs to get some better writer and directors. Their main body of staff deserves better.

No it isn't. GaoGaiGar is 14 years old, and only 49 episodes long.
If you count Final and GGGFGGG, then you aer closer, but by that point you've broken 64 and getting in material that happened years after the original series.
FINAL ended 8 years ago and GGGFGGG aired 6 years ago.

Bland is maybe the wrong word. But the characters were never the focus with GGG, ever. It was about robot fightan and toy sellan and, hey, that's what made it great. They weren't particularly interesting aside from their single personality gimmicks (HOTBLOODED or NOT HOTBLOODED or LAIDBACK or STOIC), which would've got in the way of the MOTW.

How good a Bones show ends up is typically proportional to how many links you can draw back to Macross and Patlabor among the creative staff. I still find it sort of surprising Birdy the Mighty Decode was done by A1 and not Bones...

The people working on GGG knew what they wanted to do and where they wanted to go and decided to do it well, therefore it gets praise.
The people working on SD decided to go all over the place, and that's why it gets so much hate. If you enjoyed the show then that's great for you.

I don't know anything about this anime. I refuse to watch it even though I have a friend who fucking loves the shit out of this show. I don't give a shit about the sparkles or "Galactic Prettyboy." The thing that pisses me off and makes this show unwatchable is the "mech." Everything about the design just makes me mad. I like the hat, but those hips and legs make me rage like no tomorrow.

Eh, I prefer it personally. The characters are more likable, the ending is better and doesn't require several movies, the mech designs are sweet as fuck, the women are hotter in general and as mentioned there are those touching episodes.

It's not that all of the listed similarities aren't decisive or 100% damning - it's merely a similarity.

Given the other more obvious similarities, why those "loose" similarities are there fall more into place.
