Picture unrelated.

So, I got Front Mission Evolved for pretty cheap and have been playing it a bit. Just defeated the Fafnir.

I don't get it. What's so bad about the game? I'm enjoying it pretty well, I've played much worse before (Target in Sight, Operation Troy, ACE R). Why does everyone hate it so bad?

I've painted my thing green except for a red left arm (because you can't paint just the shoulder) and have it equipped with a rocket pack, machinegun and punching thing. Great fun.

Story is nothing interesting so far and the horrible hammy voice actors are pretty bad, but the game itself is decent. Also I heard some pretty bad things about the bits where you're on foot but they were pretty short and not THAT detracting.

Balance is a bit silly around the ammo side of things because you can pick it up anywhere and everywhere and so never run out, but I actually kind of like that because I don't usually play action games and suck at them.

It just feels so good to dash around then jump at an enemy while firing off your gun and rockets and then sock it in the face when you land.

PS3 version so nothing online yet.

I actually quite enjoyed the game. But I spent most of it with the fastest boost legs I could find, the strongest melee weapon I could find on right, a piddly little machine gun on left, twin rocket launchers on shoulders, dashing around everwhere pretending to be piloting Alteisen.

Works well for everything up to the final boss. Then... not so much.

Also, Zombie robots: so bad it feels like a Big Lipped Alligator Moment.

The gameplay is somewhat flawed: even with all the customization options i ended up using always the Zephyr equipment, which offered the best overall stats.
And the game is too fucking short! I've finished it in 5 hours!

All of the mechs are too similar, redesigns of classic units look retarded because they all had to fit one rig (who the FUCK decided my Reckson should be a chunky heavily armored beefcake with unerring accuracy?!), and multiplayer sucked balls, they basically took the concept of FM Online's combat and stripped out almost all of the complexity.

On the bright side, I can have wanzer models in Garrys Mod now once I finish them. But that's about it.

This game sold so dismally it's practically guaranteed that the US will never see another Front Mission game. It was also so bad that almost all of the staff that were involved with the Front Mission series have left Square Enix.

I DEEPLY regret paying $50 for it.

I would give both my balls and my anal virginity for someone to make a private server for FMO

After watching alot of multiplayer videos, color me impressed, I'm going to pick this up because it's pretty cheap now.

I haven't had a chance to play any mech games online that felt like actual mechs since Mech Assault 2.

Fighting the first boss was one of my most painful experiences because he was so goddamn easy. What? You want me to activate EDGE to beat him? I don't need to do that, I've been hitting him with missiles and bullets for the last 20 minutes without getting hit once. I think I'll be fine...

Story mode gameplay gets kinda same-y when you can dash->shotgun->melee nearly everything. I went sniper just to mix things, but the game pretty much forces you to use certain loadouts in some situations. Especially egregious when some bosses make the use of a long range rifle the worst option ever.

Eh, worse variation than armored core and same-y weapons for an overall average, but enjoyable experience.

In a very loose sense yes, but it's really more a third person shooter
