Grunge and punk died due to lack of lack of a fanbase. Though, there is still definitely a grunge and punk fanbase....but it, as a genre, is not growing.
The whole scenecore thing has the internet. That's why it's lasted so long. It changes just a small bit every year, so that it's comfortably the same, but different enough to not get old.
Also, everyone that was into hardcore or scenecore, went to the rave scene. Dubstep is the new "hardcore" and "post hardcore", which is why that scene has gotten so huge. The huge scenecore scene moved over to that, since brostep is fundamentally the exact same as hardcore.
Opening, verse, build-up, HUGE DROP!!!!
Opening, verse, build-up, HUGE BREAKDOWN!!!!
It's the exact same music, catered to the exact same people. The thing is, post hardcore and hardcore and pretty much every genre that requires an instrument will have little attention within 20 years.
Dubstep and electronic music is the future....so, if you've any attention in making it in the music industry....I wouldn't say put the guitar down, just learn how to record into a sequencer and then modulate it and put a WIKKKED beat behind it. Make sure you get some British rappers.
Seriously.....
