Alright, /mu/, I'm bored, so I'm going to go about making a sharethread. Feel free to pay attention to it, hide it, or whatever else you so desire; it's happening anyway. I have a specific layout for all of my shares, outlined like so: Artist - Album (Year)>short genre description >longer, poorly written description/review/something of that ilk >where to start (if a discography) mediafire.link youtube.sample I have a decent amount of partial discographies uploaded which I'll likely also share, so if you're into that, then there's something for you. However, I also have singular albums written down and will try (and likely not succeed) in posting more of them than the discographies. So, sit back and enjoy - shares will start in the next post.

>ambient, neoclassical >I honestly can’t write much about this album, since I see it as something that’s more “there” than anything else – it’s a very calming listen and there’s not much going on, so I can’t really form a strong opinion on it one way or the other. I like it due to its aesthetic qualities (it’s really pretty music), but there’s really not much substance to grab onto – to me, it seems like ambient in its most juvenile phase, something to use solely as background noise or something to dine to. However, there is a slight melancholic tinge to it, but it’s not a large part of the album itself; it seems more ornate or “tacked on” to me, though it still adds a bit to the album. It’s an enjoyable album, though I still wish that it had a bit more of a surreal atmosphere to it or it dealt with sorrow and melancholy a bit deeper than it did. http://www.mediafire.com/?a32cc3wth65fcpk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeB_XbEeK5w Anti-Aristocracy !mAyBE.2F8.
Leftfield – Leftism (1995)
>progressive house >One of the greatest progressive house albums ever recorded, Leftism is a thrill to listen to and absurdly danceable. I don’t normally like dance music, but I definitely have made an exception for this album. Dem basslines, dat ethnic fusion, dat spacey ambiance, dat everything; it’s an extremely engaging listen, even though there are some tracks towards the middle that seem a bit dragged out, but, as a whole, it works extremely well and has aged really well, considering it came out in 1995. There is a very good balance of more ambient tracks and more dancey tracks, which works extremely well as a whole. There’s always some sort of change, even though the changes might be rather small throughout. It’s funky as hell and is actually a really good mixture between dance sensibilities and surprisingly fast-paced ambient – it keeps a fantastic pace throughout and, though becomes somewhat stagnant in places, it manages to pick back up. The flow between songs is perfect, even though most use a similar BPM and the signature “boom clap, boom boom clap” beat apparent in most house albums. http://www.mediafire.com/?cjtmpu1mc1a5jbn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbCLbLmO40U Anti-Aristocracy !mAyBE.2F8.
Pearls Before Swine – Partial Discography
>acid folk, psych folk >Pearls Before Swine make beautiful, gentle music, but Tom Rapp’s voice can be a bit difficult to deal with due to his constant lisp and the fact that it sounds that he has a giant ball of saliva resting in his mouth. However, his small idiosyncrasies make their music all the more interesting – there’s a juxtaposition between the “nerdy” visage that Rapp carries with the almost other-worldly instrumentation – his voice adds a necessary grounding, else the instrumentation would carry your mind off to strange fantasy lands. There’s also an interesting medley of instruments on their albums including horns and bells and such. In combination with the minimalistic acoustic strumming, Pearls Before Swine are able to create a very whimsical sound. >I recommend starting with Balaklava. http://www.mediafire.com/?s5e709ymb4mmn Samples:

Morton Feldman – Rotko Chapel + Why Patterns? (1991)
>minimalism, modern classical >This is a very quiet, yet oddly unnerving work. The vocal drones mixed with the rare percussion or piano hit adds a very twisted, surreal atmosphere to the entirety of the work. Everything seems very thought-out and deliberate. Though there are breaks of a very musical nature and recurring themes, Rothko Chapel (the arguably superior half) is filled with mostly vocal drones. However, Feldman manages to keep the work moving, despite its minimalism. There’s a strange mystique to the album which is hard to pinpoint – it sounds like something that would be playing in a film noir while the main character is walking through a dense fog. It’s intriguing, minimal, beautiful. http://www.mediafire.com/?nt6vs8klis8ltsk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baQpxuhSdnw Anonymous

Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice – Buck Dharama (2005)
>psychedelic folk, freak folk, free folk >This is a very strange album, but I absolutely adore it regardless. It’s a very difficult album to explain, since it’s so “out there”, but it’s almost post-folk; the album focuses largely on atmosphere, but also has a great psychedelic quality to it. There’s also an almost wall of noise quality to it, but it’s still very possible to pick out individual instruments. It’s slow, meandering, and oddly rewarding. The soft plucking of the guitar mixed with the drones create something unique, something magnificent. http://www.mediafire.com/?2t1e38grmrnn506 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MeY2iGJcxQ Anti-Aristocracy !mAyBE.2F8.

Kingdom – That Mystic EP (2010)
>future garage, dubstep, bass music, UK funky >An extremely danceable release and one of the most solid on Night Slugs (in my opinion). There’s not an overbearing amount of wonkiness to the album, like there are other Night Slugs releases (I’m looking at you, Lil Silva), while still having enough content and enough progression to be something that you can actually listen to and not just thumping bass. Though it’s meant for dancing and being (dare I say it) fun, it’s still a very solid release that you can play in front of less knowledgeable friends that they’ll enjoy while still maintaining a certain amount of “hipster cred”. Steve Hillage – Fish Rising (1975)
>space rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock >A solo project from an ex-member of Gong, Hillage tackles similar territory that Gong did, but in a much more straight-forward progressive rock/space rock album than anything Gong made. Of course, there’s still experimentation with synths and some jazz influences, but, as a whole, it’s a lot more progressive rock than anything else. However, that doesn’t detract from the album. The jams are great and the amount of technicality is absolutely brilliant. Hillage plays some of the most interesting guitar solos that will lead you to the far reaches of the galaxy, then slowly set you down back on Earth. His almost incomprehensible vocals on most of the tracks (especially after long instrumental sections) add even more to the surrealistic vibe that he has going on for the majority of the album. http://www.mediafire.com/?sx5cvovh22wydx4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4g0kaNgX20 Anonymous

>>25007963 Really? V0 should take up a bit less space than 320. Also, you shouldn't transcode lossy formats to a lossless format, since that'll fuck with the quality. You'll actually lose quality if I'm not mistaken, while still taking up much more space.
Christopher Bissonnette – In Between Words (2008)
>ambient, ambient drone, minimal >Thick, hazy, and unmoving, this album features very prominent, solid drones and slight variations in instrumentation that normally flesh themselves into something slightly strange. The album is the sound of nothing, of everything – the crackles make it an almost surreal experience and the panning and fading of secondary drones lends itself to a near psychedelic experience. Each song, with its ever-present drones, creates a completely new scene – each piece tells a story, however difficult to comprehend that story may be. Through its minimalism, this record definitely shines – many of the ideas would not have worked nearly as well had there been a bit more done to it. Enemies – We’ve Been Talking (2010)
>math rock, post-rock, instrumental math rock >This is an album for those of you who like “feels” in your music, since it’s chock full of them. It’s upbeat, yet oddly melancholy at the same time. It also uses a lot of repetition, leading to somewhat of a thought loop, which I’m assuming is what they were going for – a play on the idea that memories can pop into one’s thoughts at any time and it’s then difficult to get those thoughts out of your head. Or I’m bullshitting and I know nothing (which is definitely the case). They also constantly shift the repetition, resulting in an almost conversation-like progression. I also find that it is very simple, but the album’s strength lies in that simplicity – it wouldn’t work nearly as well if it was as hectic as most math rock. http://www.mediafire.com/?u4j4ucj8pb44ma8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnFGc6DvvTs Anonymous

Tetras – Pareidolia (2012)
>ambient drone, free improv, avant-garde, noise >It’s difficult to call this album an “ambient” album since it’s constantly moving, but it somehow stays rooted in semi-ambiance for the majority of its entire length. In fact, I’d call it more akin to a sort of jam band that uses a lot of repetition, lower frequency sounds, and underlaying drones. The band plays extremely well together and, despite each track being around the 20 minute mark with an extreme amount of repetition, they keep their music surprisingly lively and engaging. However, they also experiment with the more static regions of music with fading drones (especially on Pareidolia ii.) with a drumbeat there, a bass slap here, another drone overlaying the current – it all works in an oddly intriguing way that shows phenomenal group dynamics. http://www.mediafire.com/?fuceope6hmommwt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boRvBKeF-g8 Anti-Aristocracy !mAyBE.2F8.
Windsor For the Derby – Partial Discography
>post-rock, indie rock >Windsor For the Derby is definitely quite an interesting band and has made quite a jump in style from their early work to what they’re currently doing. Their first album, Calm Hades Float, is a perfect example of post-rock done correctly. It tends to be much more reserved and ambient than most of their other work, while still being largely engaging and interesting – there are no dull moments on the album. However, they slowly changed up their style by adding vocals and leaned more towards indie rock, though they still managed to keep a very “post-rock” sound with a fair amount of airy atmosphere. His voice hangs there – it’s not intrusive and their music is still quite reserved, even up to their latest release, Against Love. They have a very dreamy quality to their music, despite some of their later releases being more grounded in indie rock than their typical post-rock and the combination leads to an oddly relaxing listen. >I recommend starting with Calm Hades Float. http://www.mediafire.com/?abnti96t63osw Samples:

Flotation Toy Warning – Bluffer’s Guide to the Flight Deck (2004)
>indie rock, space rock, chamber pop >Bluffer’s Guide to the Flight Deck sets in a very strange area on this board – it’s both well-loved and strangely unknown (for the most part). However, they really are something interesting, since they manage to merge together mostly chamber pop and indie rock with space rock tendencies in an almost flawless way. The vocalist’s voice is beautiful and they use lift their instrumentals into space at the perfect time, with just enough space in between ambiance and grounding, moving vocals. I think I might also be into this album due to its use of strings, unorthodox instruments, and reserved surrealism. Overall, it’s a beautiful listen, despite its length. AMM – AMMMusic 1966 (released in 1989)
>avant-garde, free improv, noise >AMMMusic is a strange mix of high-pitched yelps from a saxophone, brooding drones from some stringed instrument, fast-paced and sporadic drumbeats, and a plethora of other small nuances, all mixed into one absolutely stunning display of utter chaos and restraint. They also put samples to use in an extremely muffled, interesting way on some of the songs, leading to an almost surreal atmosphere. To me, it sounds like a bad trip, from the screeching noise to the almost ritualistic vocals. Everything blends together extremely well, though; the artists knew how to work together and how to play on each other’s strengths. The only qualm I have with the album is how chaotic it can sound at times and how the saxophone tends to clash with the rest of the ensemble. However, the saxophone leads to a great juxtaposition and serves as a great centerpiece in some of the pieces on the album. http://www.mediafire.com/?gmtm1bt9u17b17y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKSFHh17-tg Anonymous

As Tall Lions – As Tall As Lions (2006)
>indie rock, indie pop >Honestly one of the saddest albums I’ve ever listened to, As Tall As Lions damn near perfects the indie pop sound and adds a darker, much more melancholy twist to an otherwise “happy” genre, which works to perfect effect. The vocal style mixed with the instrumentation hits like a ton of bricks, which is then magnified if you read the lyrics (I think the album is about lost love and something about having a kid). Even though some songs are over the 5-7 minute mark (an off occurrence for a pop album), none of the songs feel too dragged out, nor do they ever become a pain to listen to – it’s all very smooth. http://www.mediafire.com/?zuem6k9g8g7f2ic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tEi4jQbvME Anti-Aristocracy !mAyBE.2F8.

There’s a very clear structure to each of his songs, but he plays around with the limits of what one would consider downtempo. He plays with stringed instruments, vocals, and various electronic instruments, which lead to a very polished, complete sound that one is able to lose themselves in. Rhys Chatham – Partial Discography
>ambient, avant-garde, minimalism, drone >Though Chatham originally started making music in the 70s, most of his work didn’t receive much attention until much later and his best works (from what I’ve heard) were done post-2005. Chatham, though he gravitates more towards ambient drone, the way he accomplishes it is very different from most artists in the genre. He uses a plethora of guitars to create an array of varying degrees of both intensity and he layers them in an almost transcendental way – his music is orchestral in nature, even though he’s labeled as a minimalist. Chatham also creates a host of minute nuances in each of his albums that are there just enough to notice, but not enough to actually pay attention to, adding even more to his drones. >I recommend starting with A Crimson Grail (For 400 Electric Guitars) http://www.mediafire.com/?t1wuqjpdwu7v2 Samples:

Hauschka – Major Discography
>contemporary classical, piano, minimalist influences >Hauschka is a pianist that takes much from the ideas of John Cage and even went as far as creating his own style based solely around the prepared piano. Thankfully, it turned out an intriguing and successful experiment. Though each album sounds somewhat similar, they all vary from each other on an overall scale, never giving the same feeling to different albums. The Books – LP Discography + EP
>experimental electro-acoustique with spoken work samples, sound collage >It’s extremely difficult to describe The Books as anything other than great. Every album of theirs is a great breath of fresh air and undeniably unique. It’s also difficult to pinpoint a specific reason I like their music – it could be their use of strings, the voice as an instrument, or the great way the meld sounds together in an almost dada-esque way. Their music changes drastically from release to release, but they keep a signature sound and that sound is awesome. >I recommend starting with The Lemon of Pink. http://www.mediafire.com/?ml78lng94a4dg Samples:

The Fun Years – Findable Discography
>ambient, drone, noise, experimental >The Fun Years are a duo, made of one member playing repetitious notes on the baritone guitar and the other playing oftentimes noisy drones on the turntable. Though this seems like an unorthodox combination, it works phenomenally well and the two work together in perfect harmony. They create enveloping, dreamy, surreal soundscapes that tend to be difficult to not be entranced by. Their style is unique and their sound almost other-worldly – they capture ethereal ideas and pull it off in an almost hazy way, which works great. >I recommend starting with Life-Sized Psychoses or Baby, It’s Cold Inside. http://www.mediafire.com/?fj055bsq3dpjd Samples:

Ulan Bator – Rodéo Massacre (2005)
>post-rock, experimental rock, indie rock >Noisy, bombastic, and creative, this album contains some of the most interesting post-rock I’ve ever heard – there’s no dullness to the album, it’s continually moving, and it borrows much from the ideas set in place by krautrock bands such as Can and Faust (some members of Ulan Bator are actually in the new Faust outfit). The instrumentation is tight and the vocals powerful, leading to a very fresh sound that most post-rock bands seem to be drifting away from. Ulan Bator’s strength also lies in their ability to restrain themselves – even though it feels as though they’re on the verge of bursting into an energetic mess, they maintain their more suppressed atmosphere and beautiful guitar playing. http://www.mediafire.com/?9bt2ea4ng8wilam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NahBO8bQ4po Ultraviolet Harmonies !TDXnrIc.u2

>psych folk, avant-folk, freak folk >The Orchard is a very surreal album, where it becomes difficult to tell exactly what you’re listened to. The vocals in this album are absolutely great, as is the interplay between the male and female vocalist, along with the entire band’s chemistry. On many of the songs, the artists seem to become further and further distanced from reality, causing you to follow after (in my opinion, since I’m sure others would feel completely differently), eventually throwing you back in at random times. Recue – Leftover Love (2010)
>IDM, downtempo, ambient >Leftover Love blends multiple genres almost seamlessly, creating an open, expansive atmosphere while adding on an interesting danceable beat. He treads similar lines that Gas does, but goes in a completely, much fuller direction than the cold, minimal one that Gas went. His music is very warm, and though less enthralling and hypnotizing than other artists, he has a very strange allure to his albums that’s difficult to pinpoint. He also tends to use a decent bit of repetition, which works very well for what he’s trying to accomplish – the repetition leaves the listener with enough headspace to create whatever sort of scenery he wants to out of the music. Though some of what he puts into his songs (especially the mechanical bits) may seem out of place in the serenity of his drones and light plucking, it works surprisingly well. There are plenty of nuances to pick up on, but they tend to be completely lost throughout the course of the album, since they’re almost insignificant. http://www.mediafire.com/?1v0tmgt1tg0q0x8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKVP6GE3UwI Anonymous

GFW Radio, The Brodeo - Cudgel of Satire
>spoken word, rap, nerdcore GFW Radio was a pc gaming podcast that ran from 2006-08. This album is a collection of songs that occasionally aired with the episodes. All the lyrics are done by member Shawn Elliot, now working with the Bioshock Infinite team. A fan on the forums usually helped put some simple production on them.
The songs are cynical and self deprecating in nature, mostly making fun of the fans that would be typically listening to the podcast.
If you have even a passing interest in video games, especially pc gaming, you best do a listen to it at least once.
Its only 25min, not exactly a big ordeal.

The first time I wanted to share I made a thread about it to /mu/ and they were pretty much like 'no, just leave it to the guys who know how to share.' And I did, for a while. Then I started racking up some uploads to do mass sharing, but then I wised up and learned about bitrates and shit and had to scrap the whole thing and start over. And then megaupload happened and I couldn't have the real names, and... man sharing is a pain
I seriously have a .txt with a sort of key to which upload is which because it's basically all acronyms.
