'Politicizing Beyonce' course offered in US university
It is not clear how useful a qualification it will be, but a US university is launching a course on singer Beyonce.
Called Politicizing Beyonce, the course is being offered by The Department of Women's and Gender Studies at Rutgers University in the state of New Jersey.
Overseeing the class is Professor Kevin Allred, who said that Beyonce's career will be used to explore the issues of race, gender and sexual politics in the US.
To this end, students in the courses will analyse her videos and lyrics.
Prof Allred said it will help students think more critically about media consumption.
This is not the first performer-related course offered by Rutgers as it previously held a class on the theology of Bruce Springsteen's lyrics.
And those who feel they may be better suited for a course on Beyonce's husband could enrole at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
There, a course called The Sociology of Hip-Hop: The Urban Theodicy of Jay-Z is being offered. - Wires.
