Climate Change: Not every scientist is part of Al Gore's mythical "consensus." Scientists worried about a new ice age seek funding to better observe something bigger than your SUV — the sun.
Back in 1991, before Al Gore first shouted that the Earth was in the balance, the Danish Meteorological Institute released a study using data that went back centuries that showed that global temperatures closely tracked solar cycles.
To many, those data were convincing. Now, Canadian scientists are seeking additional funding for more and better "eyes" with which to observe our sun, which has a bigger impact on Earth's climate than all the tailpipes and smokestacks on our planet combined.
And they're worried about global cooling, not warming.

Such an event occurred in the 17th century. The observation of sunspots showed extraordinarily low levels of magnetism on the sun, with little or no 11-year cycle. This solar hibernation corresponded with a period of bitter cold that began around 1650 and lasted, with intermittent spikes of warming, until 1715. Frigid winters and cold summers during that period led to massive crop failures, famine and death in Northern Europe. Tapping reports no change in the sun's magnetic field so far this cycle and warns that if the sun remains quiet for another year or two, it may indicate a repeat of that period of drastic cooling of the Earth, bringing massive snowfall and severe weather to the Northern Hemisphere.

Because many computers today store the number of seconds as a 32-bit signed integer, the Unix epoch is often said to last 231 seconds, thus “ending” at 03:14:07 Tuesday, January 19, 2038 (UTC).

Oh for fuck's sake, if anything this is an argument FOR human-influenced climate change. Temperatures on Earth correlate exactly with solar cycles, and have done ever since...ever. And yet in the past 40 years while solar radiation has been FALLING, the temperature has been RISING. The exact correlation that has been ever-present ever since the DAWN OF TIME no longer exists! So what changed in the 1970s that fucked up all known principles of meteorology? Hmm...CO2 appears to be rising rapidly. But doesn't it usually shift AFTER temperature changes take place? What's it doing rising BEFORE a major temperature shift? Waaaiiit a fuckin' minute...

>>668263 The correlation is pretty evident, but there are alot of factors on earth that can interfere. One is human activity (as seen by the recent massive disparity.
Volcanic activity can also have an impact, if very few volcanoes are going off then the earth will get hotter, if a large number (or one or two very large ones) go off the earth gets cooler.
That was one of the reasons for the 1960s, 1970s cooling periods, when there were a handful of scientists and media people worried about another ice age (it wasn't a vast consensus, as is global warming). That period was marked by above-average volcanic activity, which produced a decline in average global temperatures...temporarily.

>>668263 >Really? Then what happened here? Statistical fluke. Probably the effects of a bunch of El Ninos or something. >>668343 The liberal "scientists" explain that away by saying CO2 is an "amplifier" rather then actually driving the temperature.

In fact, the whole fucking article is talking about a completely different climate-carbon relationship that yes, does occur on long scales.

What Capitalist Bastards' mistrepresented scientific paper is showing is this, in plain terms: They are looking for an extremely broad cycle in CO2 and Temperature correlations. They plotted the data in the hundreds of years to see what differences each century/millenia saw. They found 800 year cycles. However, that is a background cycle which is only an influence (and they don't even know how it influences) the carbon-heat cycle we have. In other words, yes the sun's decrease in energy output will cool the world, yes many volcanoes erupting will cool the world, yes a sudden surge in reception of timed-release carbon will heat the world. But none of it will heat it this fast in so few a number of years. THAT IS THE POINT. These can all be contributing or detrimenting factors to the current warming, but in no case do they disprove the apparent man-made warming that is taking place right now.
